The trackway 15 may be attached to the desk in various ways, according to the structure of the desk. As shown in Fig. 1, the desk is provided with across piece 28 near its front, and the trackway, therefore, is conveniently attached to the under side of said cross piece, while the rear portion of the trackway is attached to the portion 29 of the desk frame.

The book holder 21 may be divided into any desirable number of compartments by providing the partitions 35, of which there are two illustrated in the drawings, thereby producing three compartments 36, 3'7 and 38, respectively. As shown, these compartments are open at the front, and it is preferable to incline the bottom Wall. 41 and correspondingly incline the rear wall 42 thereof, said bottom and rear walls being disposed substantially at right angles to each other. By this arrangement the books are not so liable to be jolted'out of the holderwhen reciprocating the carriage on the trackway. For convenience in withdrawing the carriage it is provided with arecess 39 on its under side, or it may obviously be provided with a suitable hand pull in lieu' of said recess. So, too, a stop, such as theangle member 40, may be provided to limit the inward position of the book holder.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v 1. In a device of the character described, a supporting trackway comprising a channeled member having parallel marginal flanges spaced apart, a carriage comprising a rectangular body plate, said body plate having bearing rollers at its rear end portions between the body of said trackway and its said marginal flanges, said carriage having a depending longitudinal rib projected through the space between the marginal flanges of said trackway, a book holder mounted on said longitudinally ribbed portion of said carriage, and bearing rollers on said marginal flanges of said trackway for supporting the forward portion of said carriage.

2. The herein described book holder comprising a channeled trackway, said trackway having spaced parallel marginal flanges, said flanges having bearing rollers at the forward end portions thereof, a carriage comprising a rectangular body plate normally supported at its forward portion of said bearing rollers of said trackway, and having bearing rollers at its rear end portions cooperating with the body portion of said trackway and the marginal flanges thereof, said body portion of the carriage having a depending longitudinal rib projected through the space between said marginal flanges of said trackway, and a block holder depending from said longitudinally ribber portion of the carriage, said book holder having a book-receiving compartment open at its front and being provided with substantially right angula-rly disposed inclined bottom and rear walls.

3. In a desk provided with the usual leg-clearance space, a carriage on said trackway, a book holder mounted upon and movable with said carriage upon said trackway by means of bearing roolers.

l. In a desk with the usual leg clearance space thereunder, a trackway located therein to one side of said clearance space so as not to interfere with the legs of the user, means movable on'said trackway for supporting a book holder, and a book holder supported by said means.
