Patented Nov. 11, 193@ LINETE STATES @Para BASIL NORRIS ABBOTT, OF `RICH1VIOND3 VIRGINIA Application led June 17,
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in cabinets, and is more particularly adapted for use with the usual single or double flat-top desk.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a cabinet designed to accommodate, in a systematic manner, paraphernalia such as scissors, mending tape, clips, rubber bands, calendars, memorandum sheets and similar articles which are used daily in clerical or business endeavors.
Another obj ect of the invention is the provision of a cabinet adapted to remain in a stationary posit-ion on the top of a desk or place and give access to aforesaid paraphernalia.
A still further object of my invention is the provision of a convenient storage place for detachable cabinet doors.
Other objects and features Ywill more fully appear from the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken along lines 1 1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is a side view taken along lines 2 2 of Fig'l; Fig. 3 is a top plan View along lines 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional side View showing a modification of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, ends 1 1 are secured to a base 2 and top 3, which extends along and is flush with, portions of the inner edges of said ends.
A support 4 having a vertical partition 5 thereon, is secured to said end members,
-" and braces 6 secure said support and also form four small compartments 7 that are adapted to accommodate such articles as tape inkpads and boxes. Vertical holders 8 9, respectively spaced from each other, are secured to said support and partition, and are adapted to accommodate pens, pencils and the like.
Slotted frames 10 10, having tops considerably broader than the width of such are respectively secured to ends 1 1 and are spaced from said support 4 by blocks 11 thereby providing a place for an article such as a ruler. The frames are adapted to accommodate calendars, memorandum sheets,
' or such other useful information, and by .to accommodate pens, pencils or similar ar- 1926. Serial No. 116,693.
duplicating such articlesused 'in said frames they may be perceived from either side by an l observer.
v A horizontal partition 12 is secured to said ends and adapted to support a detach- 55 able receptacle 13 having `compartments formed by partitions 14, and a shelf 15 secured ther-etc, may be used to accommodate such articles as paste or gum jars. A container 1G is secured to said shelf and adapt- 60?; ed to accommodate brushes or the like. Brackets 17 are secured to the sides of said receptacle for supporting such articles as pencils and pens. Angular studs 18 may be secured to said partition to prevent hori- Zontal displacementl of said receptacle or such articles as inkwells and paste jars. Brackets 19 20, respectively secured to said ends and horizontal partitions are adapted ticles, while brackets 21 21, respectively secured to said ends may be used to support spool tape or the like, and brackets 22-23, are also secured to said ends for supporting pairs of sissors.
A compartment 24, formed by said base, ends and horizontal partition, accommodates drawers 25 having receptacles 26 formed by partitions 27. The fronts 28 28 of said drawers are of greater height than said partitions but not less than said compartment, and by such an arrangement a small compartment 24 is provided for accommodating detachable doors 3() that enclose each side of said cabinet and rest on said partition and 859 cleats 31 31', 32 32, secured to said ends. A longitudinal strip 27 is secured to partitions 27 at'the rear of each drawer and prevents any creeping or escape of articles in said receptacles when the drawer is actuated.
Referring to Fig. 5, which is a modification ofthe invention, a single cabinet may be provided by eliminating all duplicated parts and enclosing the vertical side with a back 36. The door may be set in suitable brackets secured to said back or may be vhinged so as to fold and thereby nt in compartment 24.
It is obvious from the foregoing that when access to the cabinet is desired the detachable bof Y doorsk need only be, relnoved or dra'vvers opened, andthe doors may also be placed in the compartment for convenienrCe, While the lcabinet is in use;`
Y front Walls to provide a space for storage of Having described my invention, I claim:
In a cabinet for placement on the top of a flat topdeskeJ pmutition member which di-` vides the cabinet into an upper and a lower and rear Walls of a less height than their said doors above the to pledgesof said side `and rear Wallsi .Y Y Y soffi- BAsiL VNorm-1s ABBOTT'.
