' DISPLAY DEVICE a Application filed .Novemherlt), 1932. Serial No. 643,364.
This invention relates to improvements in display devices and has particular reference to a priceindicating' sign, for use indis pensing various commodities in measured 5' I V a M quantltles.
' An object of the invention is to provide an improved device of simple, practical, andv be eme inexpensive construction, which ma ployed for indicating current prices of given 10 quantities of a commodity, such as gasoline,-
or the like. Y
Another object is to. adjustably mount a plurality of panels within the casing off-the device, so that any one of said panels could be 5 moved and secured in a position wherein indicia thereon would be visible to an ob server and said indicia read in conjunction with other changeable indicia 011 the-device to determine the price of a certain quantity of the commodity being sold.
The above andother objects will appear more clearly from the following description, when taken inconnection. with the aca companying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea. In the drawing: V Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, partially broken away, with one of the indicating panels in operative position Figure 2 is a fragmentary view similarto. Fig. 1, with all the panels in inoperative posle tion.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sect-ion through the device, and
Flgure 4 18 a plan new of a dlal used in connection with the device.
The deviceis shown as comprising arectangular frame 5 which is provided with a front wall 6 that extends from the bottom to a point short of the upper end of the frame, thus'forming an opening 7 in the front of the device. I A rear wall 8 projects downwardly from the top of the frame, and its lower end terminates at approximately the level ofthe upper end of the frontwall, said ends slight ly overlapping. Thus the rear of the casing formed in this manner is left open for a major portion of' its height for a purpose which will presently appear.
Mounted in the front wall 6 adjacent'its bottom is a pin 9 whichrotatably supports a i dial v10 having a plurality of numbers 11 ar ranged about its periphery to designate cent denominations, said numbers being successlvely exposedthrouglran openmg. 12 soas 5 to be associated with a' fixed dollarnumeral' 13"insc ribed on the front wallfi. One blank spacello'n the dial 10is provided for registration with the opening 12when the exact cost of the commodity being sold can-be designated by. the single numeral 13. Adjustment of the dial 10 may be effected from the rear of the casing below said rear wall, and in order to secure said dial in adjusted positions, avvingnut 15' is threaded upon thev pin 9 for engagement with thew a116, so as to bind the dial against the washer 16 interposed between said dial'and wall.
Passing through theupper end of the front a wall'6 and the lower end of the rear wall 8 is a pin 17 upon which are 'rotatably suspended three panels 18, 19, and 20, of segmental form andeachhaving a projecting tab21 identified, I
with a different numeral 22, said tabsl pro-1 jecting radially in diiferentfdirections from" i panel may be reached from the rear of thee device and turned to the desired position. I
Normally, the panels assume a position behind the front wall 6, as shown in Fig, 2-, with only the tabs 21 and the numerals thereof exposed above the upper edge of said wall, and they" 7 may be secured in such inoperatlveposit1on, 3
or either one of them in an adjusted operative position, as shown 1n Figs. 1 and 3, by a wing nut 23 on the pin 17, operating in a manner a similar to the nut15.
C When usingthe devicefor the saleof gaso- 1 line, for instance, each panel has inscribed thereon a numeral indicating the number of,
gallons which may be purchased for the amount designated: by the numerals '11 and:[ i
inoperative positions; Thus the numeral 69 (Fig. 2 is inscribed on the wall- 8, while the 9 large numerals 7, 87, and 9 Corresponding to the numerals 22 are placed upon the respective panels 18, 19, and 20, either-Jone of which, when swung to its operative position,
will cover the numeral 6 on the rear point approximately in alignment with the; end of said front wall forming an edge of said opening,,indiciaon said rear wall visible through said opening, a pivot rod'connccting said walls adjacent said openings, a plurality of panels each mounted for rotary movement on said rod and having indicia thereon, said panels being normally positioned behind said front wall and each being adjustable to a position in alignment with said opening and in front of the indi'cia on said rear wall, and means on said rod for securing SitlCl panels in normal and HChHStBCl posltions.
' 2. A display device comprising a casing" consistingjof a frame, a front wall having an opening at its upper end, and another opening below the first named opening, a rear wall extending downwardly from the top of said frame and terminating at a' point short of the bottomof said frame, whereby access may be had to the interior of said casing from the rear thereof, a dial. rotatably mounted in back of sai'dfront wall, so as to expose indicia thereon through the second named opening in said wall, and a'plurahty of panels also rotatably mounted'with'in. SELlCl casing, and
each movable' from' a position'behind said front wall 'to an exposed position in alignment with said first named opening, said dial and panels being accessible for rotative adjustment through the open portion of the rear wall of said casing.
