Description
July 4, 1933. I Y H. A) PECK 1,9 6,933
OIL GAUGE WIPER Filed May 31, 1952 flllorney Inventor Patented duly 4, fwd?) HENRY A. BECK, 0F CRGWN POINT, NEW YORK @111 GAUGE WIPIER Application. filed :ZZay 31,
This invention relates to a device for wip-= ing the oil gauge of an internal combustion motor, the general object of the invention being to provide brackets adapted to be connected to a part of the motor and having a wiping element thereon for wiping the gauge stick used for indicating the amount of oil in the crank case, with means for catching superfluous oil removed from the stick.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the com bination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter described fully, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
in describing the invention in detail, refer-- ence will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the device showing the same attached to a motor, a portion of the motor being shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a front view.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. A is a view in section on line H of Fig. 2 looking down.
As shown in these views, the device comprises a bracket A formed of a strip of material having its upper end bent at right angles as shown at 1, and provided with a hole 2 for receiving one of the bolts 3 which forms v a part of the motor M shown in dotted lines 5 in Fig. 1. jlhe lower end of the strip is bent into U-shape as shown at 4 with the limbs bent at the sides to form the flanges 5 and the bight has'its sides bent upwardly to form the lips 7. A felt strip 6 or the like is folded upon itself and placed in the U-shaped part and acts as a wiper'for the gauge stick to remove oil therefrom.
lhus it will be seen that the pad or wiper strip is attached to the motor and when it is desired to test the level of oil in the crank case it is simply necessary to remove the stick and pass it between the parts of the pad 6 so as to wipe the oil therefrom. Any surplus oil will be caught by the lips.
This invention obviates the necessity of 1932. Serial No. 614,531.
the user hunting for a cloth or the like to remove the oil from the stick.
The pad 6 is easily renewable as it does not have to be riveted to the arm, so that a pad can be easily removed and a new one substituted therefor, and the bracket can be bent to place the pad holding part in the most convenient position on the motor with which it is used.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is A. device of the class described comprising a bracket of substantially Ushape with one limb extended to form supporting means, a folded piece of absorbent material placed in the bracket, the limbs of the U-shaped part and the bight part thereof having inwardly extending flanges, the flanges of the bight part extending upwardly and outwardly to form lips which are spaced from the absorbent material.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HENRY A. PECK.
