In the embodiment shown, the doors are of the bottom supported type and for this pury pose a supporting track 15 is employed, said track being preferably of channel shape and supported by a series of brackets 16,- the doors being provided with supporting mechanisms C which rest upon the supporting track 15.
Adjacent the upper margins of the doors there is disposed the usual guiding track and weather guard 17 and adjacent the meeting edges of the doors there is disposed a weather shield 18 adapt-ed to cover the meeting edges ofthe doors. Y l
Both of the doors A and B are composed of metal, the main body 'portions being of relatively light gauge while the marginal reinforcing members arecomposed of relatively heavier gauge metal. The body portion of each door, preferably consists of three panels as indicated at 19, 2O and' 21 for door A and 22, 23 and 24 for doorB. w
The respective doors A and B are of similar construction insofar as the upper horizontal, rear vertical'and lower horizontal margins are concerned, but diier in features of construc'- tionV relatingto the meeting edges of the doors.V Each door includes a top Z bar 25, and at thefrear vertical margin aZ bar 26 having vthe inner flange modified to present aU-/shape 27 adapted to engage in wedging 'relation with ange 28 extending from the associated door post structure 11.` Said Z bars and 26 are respectively secured to the door kpaneling by flanges 29 which overlie the metallic' paneling. The `front vertical margin lof door A includes a U-shaped member 30 ing in the plane of the door and transverselyY thereto, the former being secured to the body paneling of the door by two series of vertically extending rivets as indica-ted at 38 and 39 respectively. The transversely extending wall 37 is disposed adjacent the front edge of the door and when doors A and B are in meeting relation, said wall forms an abutment for transverse wall 3l of the companion door. Cooperating with the walls 32 and 33 of door A on vthe respective outer and inner sides are the forwardly projecting walls Ll0 and ll, the former preferably consisting of a plate member secured to the outer face of door B by the series of rivets 33, said plate being offset slightly as indicated at 42 and extended outwardly beyondr the transverse wall 37 and into overlapping relation with door A; the inner wall 41 preferably consists of one wall;v of an angle shaped member 43 having the other wall 44 secured to that portion of the transverse wall `37 which extends outwardly beyond the main door A, said wall 4:1 being flared at its outer end as indicated at 4:5 to facilitate the overlapping relation of the doors. j
The bottom of each door is formed of generally tubular construction for the purpose of strengthening the doors. In providing the tubular formation, the lower edge of the lower door panel is deflected inwardly (Figures 3 and 4) as indicated at e6, and cooperating with the said panel is a facing plate 4l-7 offset inwardly and secured to said panel by two rows of rivets as indicated at 48 and 49 respectively, the facing plate on door B being crimped at 50 and extended so as to overlap the flange 36 of the door post mem-ber and being secured thereto, they said flanee 36 being preferably disposed on the inner side kof the door. l
There are preferably twov roller mechanisms C per door` each mechanism including a housing` 51 having an axle 52 fixedly carried thereby and on which a roller` 53 is rotatably mounted. Connections between the tubular formation and the webs of the vertical margins is effected on the inner side ofthe door by flanged corner gusset connections as indicated at 79.
rlhe doors are further braced on the inner sides thereof by diagonally extending braces 54 having channel shaped portions 55, said braces extending from the lower tubular sec tion of each door to the respective front and rear vertical marginal elements, said braces having flanges adjacent their ends riveted to the marginal elements and adjacent portions ther lower tubular formation, and also having side flanges riveted to the paneling intermediate the corrugations as shown. The diagonal brace 5d which extends tothe outer vertical reinforcement of the auxiliary door has its channel shaped portion offset as indicated at 5,6 to overlie the flange 36 of the post member.
Disposed in the angle presented by the respective walls 36 and 37 of the post member are a series of brackets as indicated at 57, 58,
59, and 6l, said brackets being secured to` the walls 36 and 37 of the post member and to the body paneling by rivets. Said brackets are extended outwardly a limited distance beyond the end of the transversely extending flange 37 and each presents a wall 62 extending in the general plane of the Vdoor and spaced inwardly from the inner face Vof the door. Mounted on the walls 62 and rigidly bolted thereto bybolts 63 is a wooden nailing block 64 which is adapted to Vreceive one end of a removable grain closure when the car is used as a grain car, said block preferably extending from top to bottom of the door. v=

Bracket 57 is locatedvr adjacent the top of the door and bracket 59 adjacent the lower portion of the upper sliding bolt 65 and the latter bracket is provided with a ledge portion 70 adapted to cooperate with a laterally extending head 7l on the bolt, said cooperating ledge and bolt head being for the purpose of maintaining the bolt i-n projected locking position; The movement of the bolt head into and out of engagement is dependent on a partial rota'- tion of the bolt-head whereby the bolt head is moved free of the associatedV ledgel 70 and may then be moved longitudinally and disengaged from its associated socket member 67, said bolt when in inoperative Vposition being supported by a bracket member 72 spaced a short distance below the ledge 70. The `member 72 preferably consistsof a short piece of commercial angle bar riveted to the .door post. The member 65 when in opera- `tive locking positionis maintained against rotation bythe pin 171.
The lower bolt member 66 is mounted in the bracket 61, the latter being located adjacent the lower edge of the door and disposed to overlie the outer vend of the facing j plate 4x7 and connected thereto and to the respective vertical walls 36 and 37 of the post member 35. 'The rconstruct-ion of the doors, `whereby the meeting edges of the doors are provided with transverse abutting Walls of considerable width in combination With inner and outer overlapping flanges, provides for a very. eflicient weather-proof joint at the meetingedges -of the doors, and in Yadditionv provides for the impact of the meetingdoors to .n be taken on their edge portions, where suoli doors are formed'of thicker material.
W'hile I have herein shown anddescribed what I nowconsider the preferred mannerl of carrying out my invention, the same is merely illustrativeV `and I contemplate all changes and modifications that come within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
I claim:
l. In a door construction of the character described, the combination with a main sliding door and an auxiliary sliding door, said auxiliary door including a main body portionr and a marginal reinforcing member secured to said door and having a transversely extending wall adapted to cooperate with the main door; of bracket members secured to said transverse wall and the body portion of the door and extended beyond said transverse wall; and a nailing block mounted on4 and secured to said brackets independently of and beyond the end of said transverse lwall. In a' door construction of the character described, the combination with a main door` and an auxiliary door; of transverse end walls on therespective doors, said Walls of the respective doors being adapted to meet ignlabutting relation when the doors are in closed position, one of said walls extending transversely of the doorA inwardly beyond the other wall; andan angle shaped member secured'by one of its flanges to said portion of the Wall Which extends beyond the other wall, said last named angle shaped member having the other of its flanges projecting beyond its associated transverse wall and into overlapping relation with the companion door.

In a door construction ofthe character described, the combination with a main door and an auxiliary sliding door, said doors when in closed position being adapted to meet margin of the door, said post member havingy angularly related walls, vone of said walls f Yals being-disposed on the inner side of the paneling in overlying relation therewith and the other wall being disposed transversely of the door; reinforcing corrugationsin the body paneling having their end portions extended into the plane of the, cverlying flange and secured to said flange by rivets positioned within the plane of the corrugations; and an overlying plate member adjacent the ends of the corrugations secured to the paneling and the overlying flange of the post member, said plate member being extended outwardly beyond the transverse wall of the post and in .overlapping relation with the main door.
6. ln a door construction yof the character described, the combinationwith a main sliding door Yand an auxiliary door, said auxiliary door includinga main body portion including metallic paneling; of a post member secured to the paneling on the inner side of the paneling, said post having a transversely extending wall adjacent the free edge of the door; bracket means disposed in the angle defined by said transverse wall Vof said door post and the metallic paneling of the door; a separate member secured to the outer face of the door and to said bracket means and adapted to extend across'the plane of the main door when said doors are in closed position, said main door having an outer marginal member secured tothe door paneling and to said bracket means and including a transversely extending wall, said las't named transverse wall constituting the abutting member adapted to engage with the post onv the auxiliary door. In a door construction of the character described, the combination with a main sliding 'door and an auxiliary door, said auxiliary door including a main body portion formed of metallic paneling and being provided adjacent its forward edge with a post -member of angular shape having one of its wallssecured to the body portion ofthe door and having the other of its walls extending transversely ofy the door and inwardly beyond the main door, said main door when the doors are in closed position being adapted to abut the transversely extending wall ofthe auxiliary door; of overlappingiianges lcarried by the auxiliary door :and adapted lto respectively extend inwardly and outwardly of the main door, said outer flange consisting described, the combination with a main door v `and an auxiliary door, said auxiliary door iaving a main body portion including 'metallic paneling, said paneling having a series of ,c horizontally extending formed therein; and a marginal reinforcing corrugations Y member of angular shape having one of its walls extending transversely of the door and having the other vwall overlying the inner face of the door and secured thereto, said last named wall being extended to overlie the plane of the corrugations for an appreciable depth to cooperate with said corrugations in strengthening the juncture of said postrand paneling. 1 Y
