This invention relates to an adjustable gas burner which is primarilyadapted to be used in a furnace or heating plant. The general object of the invention-is to t provide a burner which may be expanded or contracted in such a manner as to fit fire pots of varlous s zes.

The invention in its present form 'is adapted to be used in an oblong fire pot 5 and comprises a pluralityof manifolds 6, each having a plurality ofxspuds 7 inclined upwardly toward the wall ofthe fire pot.
Battles 8 are arranged above the spu-ds and as a convenient means for supporting these baflles, each baffie 'may be provided with a depending flange 9 which is adapted to be inserted between flanges or lugs 10 and 11' formed on the manifold 6.
Gas is supplied through a pipe 12 which leads to a head 13 adapted to'be supported from the bottom thereof. Inhorder that the manifolds 6 may be connected to theh-ead 13 and at the same time may be adjustable laterally to accommodate them to the width of the fire pot, it is preferred to form the head 13with outlet arms 14 having upturned ends 15 fromwhich the respective manifolds 6 aresupportedby a series of toggles. 4. A gas burner comprising a gas supply head, a manifold, and conduit sections constituting the links of a toggle connecting said head to the manifold.
5. A gas burner comprising a gas supply head, a manifold, and a conduit made in a plurality of sections pivotally connected in series with said head and manifold respectively to constitute a toggle for adjusting the distance between said head and manifold.
6. A gas burner comprising a gas supply head, a manifold, a conduit connecting said head to the manifold, said conduit being jointed to constitutea toggle, each joint ineluding two laterally turned ends, one seating against the other,

and means associated with the spindle for locking the joint and at the same time sealing it against leakage of 'as.

A gas burner adapted for use in a fire pot and comprising a pair of oppositely disposed manifolds, a common supply head between the manifolds, an intermediate conduitsection between each manifold and the supply head, and a pivotal sealed connection between each intermediate conduit section and the head and manifold between which it is located, said manifolds being adjustable about the respective connections to vary the distance between said manifolds and adapt them to fire pots of different Widths.
8. A gas burner adapted for use in a fire pot and comprising a gas supply head, a pair of oppositely disposed manifolds, connections including an intermediate conduit section between each manifold and the supply head, and joints between each conduit sec tion and the head and manifold respectively, each joint including two laterally turned ends, one seating against the other, aspindle constituting the axis of the joint, and means associated with the spindle for locking the joint and at the same time sealing it against leakage of gas, said manifolds'being adjustable about the respective connections to vary the distance between said manifolds and adapt them to fire pots of different widths.
