In practice the roll isgrasped with one hand, 'andthe free end of the paper stock with the other hand and the desiredlength, of stock drawn outfrom beneath the cutter edge, :whereupon the roll is pressedwith'the fingers to induce the necessary drag so the roll will otherwise always be maintained in a thoroughlyclean and sanitary condition. The cover may be of any suitable material, such as paper board or the like, and is merely asheet of material designed to cover and protect the roll of waxed paper, or tissue paper or the like (3). In practice the roll is shipped with end strips (16) fitted with its inner edges (17) beneath the edges of the cover and eXtending'Out to be tucked into the core as at (18) to protect the ends of the roll. If desirable the cover may be formed withside extensions (19) detachable along perforated lines (20) for tucking into the core to protect the ends of the roll. These end strips are removed before the articleis placed in use.

In the form shown in Figure 3, the cover (1) and cutter (2) arev practically co-extensive or the same width. In this case a string or'cord fastening (X) is used to hold the cover closed. In Figure 3B a seal (Y) is used to hold the cover closed andthis may be printed up in the form of an attractive label. i
