UNIT STAT \VINSER SMITH, OF PRINCETON, IOIVA.

FEEDING MILLSTONES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IVINSER SMITH, of Princeton, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Device to be Applied to Millstones to Prevent the Clogging or Choking of the Same; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, said drawing being a vertical section of an upper millstone or runner with my improvement applied to it also bisected.

This invention consists in giving a jarring or shaking motion to the cylinder which conducts the grain through the eye of the rotating stone.

To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.

A represents the upper stone or runner of a pair of mill stones.

B, is the bail; and C, is the spindle.

The above parts are of usual construction and therefore do not require a minute description.

D represents a cylinder which may be constructed of sheet metal. This cylinder is fitted within the eye of the stone A, and sufiiciently loose so that it may work up and The upper end of the cyldown therein.

To the upper end of the cylinder D an upright ledge Z), is attached having a' horizontal projection 0, at its upper end; and (.Z is an inclined projection attached to the inner edge of the upper surface of the curb E, which encompasses the stone A, the projection a! extending sufficiently far over the stone A to allow the projection 0 on the ledge 7) to pass over it.

From the above description of parts, it will be seen that as the stone A rotates, the cylinder D will be vibrated, or moved up and down, in consequence of the projection passing over the inclined projection (Z and the eye will be prevented from choking or clogging as the grain is fed into it.

I do not claim the employment of a tube for conducting the grain through the eye of the rotating stone; but

Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

Giving a jarring or shaking mot1on to the tube D, as described, for the purpose of preventing the clogging of the grain.
