SMITH, NILES, IVEIGI-IIGAN, ASSIGNOR "10 MICHIGAN WIRE GOODS COMPANY, OF NILES, MICHIGAN 'VDISILAY RECEPTAGLE of compartments, certain of the compartments being adjustable to different capacities and the device also being adjustable to provide stepped shelving or a shelf and a receptacle.
A further object is to provide a structure having these advantages which may be compactly collapsed and is adap ed for use 111 series for display purposes. I
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will appear. from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims. V
A structure embodying the features of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: -Fig. 1 is an end view of'my improved display receptacle.
' Fig. 2 is a front view thereof.
Fig.3 is a plan view.
Fig. 4 is a top or plan view with the receptacle collapsed.
Fig. 5 ,is a perspective view of one of the bottom members.
Fig. 6 is an end elevation of a modified form orembodiment of my invention.
'Fig. 7 is a fragmentary front elevation of the embodiment shown in Fig. 6
i Fig. 8 is a vertical section of a plurality of my improved receptacles arranged in operative relation. p I
Fig. 9 is a vertical section of another as sembly of my improved receptacles on aline corresponding to line 99' of Fig. 10.
Fig. 10 is a fragmentary transverse vertical section on line 1010 of Fig. 9.
Fig. 11 is an enlarged fragmentary per spective view illustrating details of the connections between the assembled receptacles.
My improved receptacle comprises front members designated generally by the numeral 1, back members designated generally by the numeral 2 and stepped end members des ignated generally by the numeral 3. The end members 3 comprise front and rear' uprights 4 and 5 and central uprights 6. Horizontal bottom bars 7 are fixedly secured to these up rights as is also the top horizontal bar 8,
This top horizontal bar is substantially onehalf the length of the bottom horizontal bar and extends only to the central upright 6. The intermediate horizontal bar 9 extends from the rear upright to the upper end of the front upright 4. The vertical slats or wall members 10 terminate at the intermediate horizontal bar while the vertical slats or wall members 11 extend tothetop bar 8. e
The back member is made up of horizontal bars 12 having eyes 13 at their ends pivotally engaging the rear uprights 5 and Vertical slats 14 fixedly secured to these bars 12.
The front member comprises the horizontal bar 15 having the vertical slats 16 secured thereto. The bars 15 have eyes 17 at their ends 'pivotally engaging the front uprights 4 of the end members.
I, provide a partition member consisting of horizontal bars 18 and uprights 19, the horizontal bars having eyes 20 attheir ends engaging the central uprights 6.
lVith the parts thus arranged they may be collapsed upon each o her as shown in Fig. 4 and front and rear compartments are provided. The rear compartment is substantially twice the depth or capacity of the front compartment.
7 Each compartment is provided with a bottom 21 comprising longitudinal bars 22 havmg downturned ends 23 and slats 24. These downturned ends of the bottom members are selectively engageable with the horizontal bars of the end members, thus providing rear compartments of different capacities, or a rear compartment and a shelf when the front bottom member is engaged with the intermediate cross bar 9, or stepped shelves'when both bottom members are adjusted at the top of the compartments. 1
The front and rear uprights of the end members are preferably extended into legs 25, the ends of which are bent upwardly and disposed in crossed relation providing braces 26.
In the modification shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the-structure is the same as that described Witlltll exception that the front legs are omitted and the rear legs 27 are of such length as to support the receptacle in upright i being substantially position with the end barsinclined as is illustrated, the purpose of this being to more effectively display the contents.
The units shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the units shown in Figs, 6 and 7 are designed to be assembled in alignment with the units having the shorter legs supported'between a pair of the other units. For this purpose, the units shown in Figs; 6- and 7am provided with downwardly facing hooks 29 which may be engaged over the top' bars 8 of a pair of the taller units or over the intermediate bars 9. When the hooks are engaged with the bars 9, the receptacles are supported in the same horizontal plane as shown in Fig. 8. When the'hooks are engaged with the top bars 8 the intermediate receptacle is supported in an intermediate position relative to the other receptacles. In another assembly, the intermediate or lower units may be placed in front of the taller units thereby providing a structure which may be adjusted to meet the particular requirements or situation in the matter of space or goods to be displayed or the effect desired.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in an adaptation which has proved highly satisfactory for display purposes, and .one which is adaptablefor displaying a variety of goods. I have not attempted to illustratethe variations I an adaptations of which it is capable.
Having thus describedmy invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I V Y 1.
