CAP FOR SANCTUARY OR OTHER OIL BURNING LAMPS Filed April 21, 1932 A k l I A I Inventor J/QZ/kdaf Set e71" warren eras,
MATI-IIAS T. SEVGIK, OF FENTON, MISSOURI CAP FOR SANCTUARY OR OTHER OIL BURNING LAMPS Application filed. April 21, 1932. Serial No. 606,699.
This invention relates to acap for use with sanctuary and other lamps, the general object of the invention being to provide a cap adapted to be placed over a lamp receptacle, and having a small opening in the center thereof, through which the products of combustion from the burning wick will pass, the cap leaving an opening at the sides thereof for permitting air to pass into the receptacles so that the receptacle will be kept cool and the flame from the burning wick will not flicker.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in p the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the app-ended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a lamp receptacle provided with a cap constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section on lin-e 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cap as shown.
' In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a receptacle such as that used in a sanctuary lamp and the like, and which contains a fuel 2 in which a wick 3 is placed so that by lighting the upper'end of the wick, the same will burn for some time.
My invention consists in providing a cap A for the receptacle which, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 is of substantially triangular shape with its corners offsetupwardly as shown at 4 for resting on the rim oi the receptacle and the center of the cap is provided with a hollow boss which extends upwardly and prefr erably of the shape shown, so as to vterm a flue 5 having an opening 6. Thus when the cap is placed on the receptacle as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the fine 5 having opening 6 will be located over the flame of the burning wick so that products of combustion and O heated air will pass through the opening and the vacuum created in the receptacle by the upward passage of the products of combustion through said central opening, will draw cooling currents of air into the receptacle at the sides thereof, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 3.
provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1. A cover for a sanctuary receptacle or candle lamp comprising a substantially triangular-shaped plate having its corners 05- set upwardly to provide seats for resting upon portions of the upper edge of the receptacle and shoulders for engaging portions of the internal wall of the receptacle, and an upwardly extending hollow boss at the center of the plate forming an opening for the discharge of products ofcombustion, said boss having its wall sloping upwardly and inwardly to form a restricted opening at its upper end.
2. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a central opening and having laterally extended portions adapted to seat upon the upper end wall of a candle cup and thereby support said plate in position to provide air passages into the candle cup at the sides of said plate between said extended portions, and an upwardly extended flue in connection with said plate around i said opening causing suction for the discharge of the heat and products of combustion produced by a burning candle in the cup.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
MATHIAS T. SEVCIK.
