This invention relates to coin holders and more particularly to a coin holder adapted to be attached to a purse and whereby coins may be inserted therein and removed therefrom without having to open the purse.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which may be attached to the bot-tom or in close proximity to the bottom of a purse thereby reducing to a minimum interference when the hand is inserted into the purse.

Another object is to provide a device adapted to hold change as for instance nickles, dimes, and pennies which may be read1ly removed therefrom for oar-fare and bus fare to facilitate getting this fare without having to search in ones purse for the same.

Another object is to provide a rotatable sleeve which is adapted to be moved within the coin holder whereby to allow for insertion or removal of coins therefrom.

Another object is to provide means for locking the sleeve in closed position.

With these objects in view the invention will be more clearly understood by reference to the following specification and accompanying drawing wherein like characters indicate corresponding parts and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a purse to which the device is attached.

Figure 3 is an enlarged top plan with parts broken away and shown in section.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates a cylindrical barrel having a bottom 2. The upper end 3 is open and is provided with a circular flange 1 having 45 diametrically opposed tongues 5 formed thereon. Slots 6 are provided in close proximity to the ends of the tongues 5. A sleeve 7 is rotatably mounted within the barrel 1 and extends above the top thereof. A coil spring 8 is mounted within the sleeve 7 and 1932. Serial No. 613,908.

has mounted thereon at the top thereof Within the sleeve 7 a cap 9 having a depending circular flange 10 which encloses a few of the upper coils of the spring 8 soldered or attached to the inner wall of the flange in any 5 suitable manner. The barrel 1 is adapted to be arranged within a purse 11 with the flange ft in abutment with the inner face of the bottom wall 12 of the purse 11. The wall 12 is provided with an opening 13 of substantially the same diameter as the outer diameter of the sleeve 7. A cover 141 is provided with a cup shaped central portion 15 having a flange 16 at the bottom thereof. Formed on the flange 16 are diametrically opposed tongues 17 having fingers 18 punched therefrom which are bent downwardly as clearly shown in Figure 5. The fingers 18 are adapted to be inserted through openings 19 in the wall 12 and the slots 6, and bent backwardly upon the face 20 of the tongues 5. The cup portion 15 has formed in its top wall 21 an opening 21 and a substantially semicircular slot 22 in the flange 23 thereof. The D cap 9 is adapted to normally abut the inner face of the wall 21. Coins or tokens may be inserted through the opening 22 between the cap 9 and the wall 21 and are held in position by the spring 8. Continued insertion of coins will move the cap 9 to the position shown indotted lines in Figure 2 with the last coin inserted being between the wall 21 and the previously inserted coin. When it is desired to remove a com, a finger 1s inserted in the opening 21 and with a slight pressure may move the uppermost coin out through the opening 22.

Formed on the upper end of the sleeve 7 is a substantially semi-circular flange 24 the g0 upper edge being arranged in close proximity tothe inner face of the wall 21. Formed at one end of the flange 24 is a latch 25. The latch 25 comprises a tongue 26 bent radially outward to a point-substantially the radius of the outer face of the flange 23 and then substantially at right angles. A finger 27 is punched from the extension 28 of the tongue 26 and is arranged in alignment with the radially disposed portion 29 of the tongue 26. lVhenthe device is in open position the finger 27 is in abutment with the edge 30 of the slot 22. When it is desired to prevent removal of coins from the device, the sleeve 7 is moved clock-wise to the position shown in Figure 4, the extension 28 riding over a button 31 punched outwardly of the flange 23. Further movement brings the face 3:2 of the portion 29 in abutment with the edge 33 of the slot 22 and the button 31 will rest in the opening 34 of the extension 28, the end of the slot being in abutment with bottom of the button 31.

Having thus described my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the detail of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invent-ion or the appended claims.

- What I claim is:

1. In a device of the class described including a barrel, a cover for said barrel having a slot in one side thereof, a sleeve rotatably mounted in said barrel and having a slot at the top thereof adapted to register with the slot in said cover when in open position whereby coins may be inserted into said sleeve, a cap mounted in said sleeve and adapted to support said coins thereon, a

spring mounted in said sleeve beneath said cap and adapted to urge said cap upwardly, and meansfor latching said sleeve in closed position.

2. In a device of the class described including a barrel, a cover for said barrel having a slot therein, a sleeve rotatably mounted in said barrel and having a slot formed at the upper end thereof adapted to register with the slot in said cover when said sleeve is in open position, a latch formed on said sleeve adapted to abut either end of the slot in said cover whereby to limit rotation of said sleeve in open or closed position, a button formed on said cover in close proximity to one end of the slot in said cover, and a slotted tongue formed on said latch adapted to engage said button whereby to lock said sleeve in closed position.

3 In a device of the class described including a barrel, a cover for said barrel having a slot therein, a sleeve rotatably mounted in said barrel and having a slot at the upper endthereof and adapted to register with the slot-in said cover when said sleeve is in open position, a button formed on said cover in close proximity to one end of the slot in said cover, a latch formed at one end of the slot in said sleeve adapted to engage either end of the slot in said cover whereby to limit movement of said sleeve, a finger piece formed on said latch, said latch having a slot adapted to engage said button whereby to lock said sleeve in closed position.
