Description
D. c. LEMON El AL ,443
LANDING NET HOLDER Filed Sept. 30, 1932 [nvenlors .Z QCQ-Zeman /I Home y Patented June 20, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DON G. LEMON AND LOUIS L. CARPENTER, F ALMA, MICHIGAN LANDING NET HOLDER Application filed September 30, 1932.
This invention relates to a holder for a landing net, the general object of the invention being to provide means for holding a landing net on the clothing of a fisherman, or
upon the creel strap in such a manner that the net can be readily grasped by the fisherman when desired for use and in such a position that there is little danger of its being caught in bushes or the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter described fully, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 2- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a view partly in section showing the device attached to a supporting member.
As shown in these views, the device comprises a substantially triangular-shaped part 1 having its apex formed with an extension 2 which has a part bent into substantially U- shaped form as shown at 3, with the rest of the extension sloping forwardly and ending in a fiat part 4 which is perforated to receive the fastening means 5. The base of the part 1 has the perforations 6 in its corners for receiving the fastening means 7 and as is seen from Fig. 2, this base and the part 5 lies in substantially the same plane as does also the bight part of the portion 3. The supporting member 8 shown in Fig. 2 may be the front part of a fishermans coat or jacket or may be a part of the creel strap.
A spring tongue 9 is connected at one end to the base part 1 with the tongue extending over the U-shaped part 3 with its free end extending outwardly as shown at 10. Thus the tongue will hold the rod of the landing net in the U-shaped part 3 and in such a manner that the fisherman can readily release the rod by an outward or side pull but the device will prevent the net from being released by a straight down pull.
By attaching the device to the front of the Serial No. 635,635.
clothing or other part at the front of the fisherman, the device will support the landing net at the front of the fisherman so that he can readily grab the net when he desires to use it and this position will also eliminate danger of the net being caught in bushes, trees, or the like.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be made in the construction.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is 1. A landing net holder comprising a plate having attaching means at one end thereof and a reduced extension at the opposite end, said extension having a U-shaped part at its point of connection with the plate, said extension then extending from the U-shaped part at an angle to the plane of the plate and terminating in a substantially fiat part provided with attaching means, and a spring tongue having one end connected to the first mentioned end of the plate with the tongue extending over the plate and over the open end of the U-shaped portion for holding the rod of the net in said U-shaped portion.
2. A device of the class described comprising a triangular-shaped plate with an exten sion connected to one corner thereof, the other 35 corners having perforations therein, said extension having a U-shaped portion one limb of which is connected to said corner of the plate with a part of the extension then extending from the other limb at an angle to the plane of the plate with the extremity thereof bent to provide a substantially flat portion'having a perforation therein and a spring tongue connected with the plate and extending over the open end of the U-shaped portion.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
DON C. LEMON. LOUIS L. CARPENTER.
