Description
June 13, 1933. w. M. KEITH ANGLE CHANGER FOR TOOLS Filed July 13, 1932 R. K ["0 ME m m 8E 0 m W M A m 1 M w /f Y B Patented dune 13, 1933 T E TA T E S PATENT ANGLE CHANGER/ FOR TOOLS Application filed July 13, 1932. Serial No. 6%,275.
This invention relates to an attachment for tools.
The principal object of this device is to provide an attachment for tools which permits the tool to be operated at an angle outside of a straight angle in relation to the operating handles of the tool.
A further object of the device is to provide an attachment in combination with any tool, such as clippers, in order to change the angle of the blades from a horizontal position to that of a vertical position in relation to the operating handles of the tool.
A further object is to provide an attachmeat that may be easily attached to a tool and removed from a tool.
A still further object is to provide an attachment which may be secured to a pair of handles such as clipper handles, and which provides means for attaching clippers to the attachment in order that the clipper blades may be held at an angle of 90 in relation to the handles of the tool.
It is obvious that the attachment may be used in combination with other tools besides clippers, such as pliers, expanders and the like. in tools, such as ordinary clippers, .vhere the handles are in a horizontal plane to the blades conditions often arise where it is extremely difficult or impossible to reach a position for shearing or cutting bolts, rods, cables, etc. in the repair of automobiles, such as the rear of automobiles, fenders, and splash aprons. ly invention allows the operator to 3 easily and conveniently operate the tool without difficulty such as is encountered where the tool must be operated with the blades in a horizontal plane to the operating handles.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein V Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing clipper blades attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device in attached relation to handles and. to clipper blades. I
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that there is provided an attachenient comprising two telescoping parts. A part 1 comprises a base portion 2 provided with a rectangular opening 3 and a pair of opposite- 5 ly'disposed slide members 4-. lhis part 1 is also provided with a lug 5 provided with a. central opening 6 for the reception of a bolt. It will also be seen that this part 1 is provided with a-bracket 7 for the reception oi an end 8 of a blade of clippers 9. I
It will also be seen that a second part is provided with a base portion 10 which is provided with a central slide member 11 which functionswith the rectangular open- 9 ing 3 in a sildeable manner. It'will be seen that this second part 10 is provided with a rectangular opening 12 for the purpose of slideably holding a lower member of the oppositely disposed slide members 4. It 7 Will also be seen that there'is provided a rectangular recess 13 in order to slideably hold an upper member of the oppositely disposed slide members l. It will also be seen that this part 10 is provided with a lug 14- 89 which is provided with a central opening 15 for the reception of a bolt. The part 10 is provided with a bracket 16 for the reception of an end 17 of a blade of the clippers 9.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that the clippers 9 are positioned in a vertical position in relation to handles 18 which are attached to the lugs 5 and 14 by means oi bolts 19. It will also be seen thatthe ends 8 and 17 of the clippers S are secured to the brackets 7 and 16 by means of bolts 20.
It is obvious that, if it is desired, the attachment could be provided with brackets 7 and 16 so as to hold the clippers 9 at angles deviating from the 90 angle shown in the drawing.
By referring to Figure 2 it will be seen that in ordinary clippers the ends 8 and 17 of the clippers 9 would be held in a recess 21 of the handles 18 by means of bolts 19 and for that reason the recess 21 should be similar in size to that of a channeled recess 22 in the brackets 7 and 16.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described comprising an attachment for clippers in combination with clipper blades and clipper handles, two parts held in slideable relation to each other, a lug formed at outer end of each part, a bracket formed on each part for the reception of said clipper blades.
2. In a device of the class described comprising an attachment for clippers in combination with clipper blades and clipper handles, two parts held in slideable relation to each other, a lug formed at outer end of each part, a bracket formed on each part for the purpose of holding said clipper blades at a angle to the plane of the handles.
3. In a device of the class described comprising an attachment for clippers in combination With clipper blades and clipper handles, two partsheld in slideable relation to each other, one of said parts comprising a base portion, a rectangular opening in said base portion, a pair of oppositely disposed slide members, a lug, a bracket member, a channeled recess in said bracket member formed at a 90 angle to said handles, a second part comprising a base portion, a central slide member slideably maintained between said oppositely disposed slide members, a rectangular opening, a rectangular recess, a lug formed on said second part, a bracket member, a channeled recess in said bracket member formed at a 90 angle to said handles.
4. In a device of the class described comprising an attachment for clippers in combination with clipper blades and clipper handles, two parts held in slideable relation to each other, one of said parts comprising a base portion, a rectangular opening in said base portion, a pair of oppositely disposed slide members, a lug, a bracket member, a channeled recess in said bracket member formed at an angle to said handles, a second part comprising a base portion, a central slide member slideably maintained between said oppositely disposed slide members, a rectangular opening, a rectangular recess, a lug formed on said second part, a bracket member, a channeled recess in said bracket member formed at an angle to said handles.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
WILLIAM M. KEITH.
