This invention relates to a shipping package for an electric ceiling fan or like device. An object of this invention is to provide a shipping package for an electric ceiling fan or like device which will be compact, which will support the device entirely free from the carton walls, and which will provide convenient spaces for securely packing the fan parts and accessories.
()ther objects of the invention will be apparent from the following detail description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the outer carton. V Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the inner assembly of the package.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the outer carton in sectlon.
Fig. 4: is an end elevation with the outer carton in section.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the inner package assembly.
Fig. 6 is a section taken on line 6-6, Fig. 5. F ig. 7 is a perspective view of the inner assembly similar to Fig. 2 but with the assembly upended. I Fig. 8 is a section taken on line 8-8,
1g. The device to be packed, as specifically illustrated, is an electric ceiling fan which includes integrally an enlarged central housing 1, an upper projecting boss2 and a lower projecting boss 3. An upper tray 4 comprises a bottom 5, side walls 6, end walls 7 and partition walls 8. A hole 9 is cut in the bottom 5 and the tray 4 rests upon the housing 1 and about the boss 2. The partition walls 8 form compartments 10 convenient for the packing of accessories 11. Another tray 12 includes a bottom 13, side walls 14, end walls 15 and partition walls 16.
The bottom 13 has a hole 17 for the insertion of the boss 3, thus permitting the housing 1 to rest upon the bottom wall 13 and the tray 12 to be positioned about the boss 3. The partitions 16 form compartments 18 in which fan blades 180: may be packed.
, A protecting strip 19, to prevent abrasion of the surface of thearticle, may be inserted thimble 20, thatisa cup shaped member and a part of the device, may *be inserted in the center compartment of the tray 4 which is formed by the partition wall 16 and about The inner assembly, including the device,
the tray 1 andthe tray 12, is securely fastened together bymetal straps 23 and 24. e The depth of thetray 12 is such thatthe straps 23 and 24: bear against the top of the thimble 20,
thus securing it in position. The device itself, including the housing 1, the boss 2 and the boss 3, is securely supported away from the walls of the outer carton 25 into which the inner assembly is insertedfor shipping.
The carton25 is of such dimensions that the inner assembly neatly fits within it. This carton maybe conveniently constructed of corrugated-paper board or other proper material. The trays 4 and 12, as specifically illustrated, are constructed with wooden walls and withheavy cardboard bottoms.
It'ywill thusbe seenthat the invention accomplishes its objects; that aypackage compact instructure has been provided; that the article is supported free from any of the Walls of theouter carton and in a manner which is somewhat resilient, thus preventing injury by shock due to handling; and that convenient compartments have been providedforpacking the blades of the fan and EN O 1. A shipping package including an article of the class described having a large central portion and a smaller portion extending from each end of said central portion, a tray having a bottom resting upon said central portion with one of said smaller portions extending through said bottom and positioned within said tray, a second tray similarly arranged on the opposite side of said central 1 portion, each of said trays having a rigid frame and a relatively resilient bottom, straps holding the trays and the article as an integral assembly, and an outer carton substantially fitting said assembly;
2. A shipping package including an article of the class described having a large central portion and a smaller portion extending from each end of said central portion, a tray having a bottom resting upon said central portion with one of said smaller portions extending through said bottom and positioned within said tray, a sec-0nd tray similarly arranged on the opposite side of said central portion, partitions in the trays dividing the 7 same into compartments to receive disassembledparts of and accessories for said article,
straps holding the trays and the article as an integral assembly, and an outer carton substantially fitting said assembly.
3. A shipping package including an article 7 of the class described having a large central portion and a smaller portion extending from each end of said central portion, a tray having a bottom resting upon said central portion with one of said smaller portions extending through said bottom and positioned Within saidtray, a second tray similarly arranged on the opposite side of said central portion, straps holding the trays and the arti- (:10 as an integral assembly, a disassembled cup-shaped part positioned over one of said 7 smaller portions and firmly held between said straps and the bottom of the tray in Which it 3 is placed, and mentor carton substantially fitting said assembly.
4:. A shipping package including an article of the class described having a large central portion and a smaller portion extending from each side of said central portion, apair of trays, each comprising rigid outer wall members and a resilient bottom member, thetrays being placedin reverse position respectively one on each side of the article with the bottoms resting against said central portion and vWith the smaller portions of the article extending through the bottoms and positioned Within the trays, straps holding the trays and the article as an integralassembly, and an outer carton substantially fitting said assemblv.
