SPECIALTY CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OE NEW 'YORK SHIPPING AND DISPLAY PACKAGE EOE BIRTHDAY cAxE CANDLE HOLDERS Alpucuon mea June iagiaso.` serial No. 450,914.'
The invention is particularly directed a tray for carrying candle holders which con- These bodies are made of icing quite .brittle and vary quite a little in size and sha -One of the objects of my invention is .to
sist of ornamental bodies with wire stems. which is provide a tray which can be readily packed or loaded with such holders.
Another object is to rovide a construcheld against and in which they are not likely to be broken in packing or in shipment.
Another object is to provide a tray of this characterin which the `candle holders can be displayed uniformly. 4 v
Inca ing out the invention I provide-a tray whlilsi has upper and lower floors. llhe upper oor is rovided with a series ofo enings suitable or receiving the bodies o the candle holders and the lowerloor is pro.- vided with yieldingljaws or tongues for holding the stems. T e tray may be mounted in any suitable container which may have a transparent top for display pur oses.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view o a package embodying my invention.` i f Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan. view of the' tray showing this construction and with some candle holders in place.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional. view of a' fragment of one corner of a. tray and conprovided with ilan es such as 7 and 8 which connect them toget er and serve as supports.
The candle holders have ornamental bodies 9 with small stems 1() which may be of wire. A lower floor or plate 5 is providedwith a series of curved cuts 11 and 12 which intersect and form yielding tongues or )aws such as 14 and 15.. n
These cuts and tongues provide yielding portions into which the stems of the holders are adapted to be readily thrust and 'frictionally gripped. j
The up er lioor or plate 6 is provided with a series Oopenings or holes 16 which are ar ranged above the cuts and tongues in the lower plate. These upper holes are very much larger in diameter than the stems of the wire and serve `as seats for the tapered lov-.er ends of the ornamental bodies of the holders.
This very simple construction greatly facilitates the loading of the tray which is usually done by hand. The large hole 16 is quickly found portion of the lower plate readily receives the tip of the stem even though it is not applied centrally. The wall -of the hole -16 servesas a supportfor the side ofthe holder 9 rather than the lower end of the holder. There is therefore less, likelihood of injury to the icing because the sides of the holders are smoother and more uniform as a general thing than the lower ends of the icing. This also results in amore uniform' level of the tops ofthe holders in the tray than is possi'- ble when the holders are sup orted solely by of the holders.
the wires or by the lower en s of the bodies For shipment or storage purposes the trays may be enclosed in a box or container consistmg ofva casing 17- having a wall portion y the stem and the yielding enclosing said ioors and of an outer casing Or cover `ortion 18 having a wall portion that surroun s said casing 17. The outer casing 18'may have 'a transparent window 19 for` d is lay purposes, etc. claim:
