IMPROVEMENT IN PEN-RACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 191,33], dated May 29, 1877 application filed April 23, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARVEY W. FORMAN, of Golden City, in the county of Jefferson and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Pen-Rack, of which the following is aspecification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 reprack, by which pens and pencils may be sup-' ported in convenient manner, and at the same time the ink remaining in' the pen be absorbed thoroughly without requiring the wiping of the pen; and the invention consists of an upper frame with inter-orossing wires, forming wide spaces or meshes, and of a second frame with closer wires below the same, for holding the pen in upright position, in connection with a bottom pad or absorbent below the rack-frames.
1n the drawing, A represents a supportingframe of suitable size and shape, across the top part of which are stretched parallel wires at suitable distance, and immediately below the same a number of cross-wires, which together form a horizontal or inclined screen or rack, 0, having spaces or meshes of sufficient width to admit the ready insertion of a pen or pencil. At suitable distance below the top rack or screen a second series of longitudinal and transverse wires are stretched in similar manner, but close together, so .as to form a second rack, B, with smaller spaces or meshes,
that bind tighter on the pen or pencil, and secure the same, in connection with the upper rack, firmly in upright position when put in.
At the bottom of frame A, below the wire framesor racks O and B, is arranged a blottingpad, D, or other absorbent material,
that takes up the ink from the pens in-.
serted into the rack. The vertical position of the pens causes the ink to flow down to the point and into the pad, so as to keep them dry, and thereby more durable, longer available for use, without requiring the time consumed wiping the pen. The pen or pencil may be instantly stuck'into the rack and taken out, so that the same forms a simple and convenient device for being used in connection with an inkstand on the desk for avoiding the soiling of the latter by inkspots.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A pen-rack formed of supporting-frame with upper wire frame having large guide spaces or meshes, and of a lower wire frame with closer holding spaces or meshes, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. A pen-rack made of a supporting-frame with top wire frame havinglarge guide spaces or meshes, of a lower wire frame with closer spaces or meshes, and of a blotting pad or other absorbent material at the bottom of the frame, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
