The operatingishaft23 maybe associatedlin any desired manner (not shown)` withaL flexible control device, its'outer end terminatingiin aknob 25, which is preferL 8-51 ably* used forcontrdlli'ng the Vvolume output oiitheset;4 The" shaft24is also provided* with an external? knobf26, the turning" ci"` which is* adapt-ed to control the' setting' ofy tlie-fcondensers ofithe apparatus byco-operatiing` the-structure carried by the base l0.v Tire structure supported bythebase 10, inL cludes asubstantiallyrectangular* bracket l227, the sides ioff wllichare apertured "to provide journals 1fortthe-1shaft 20:1 Tlietshaft-24iis 95 provided-with ai--wofrm- `gea-1";28P wliiclt co-'operateswwith *l gearl 29`inounted' fer7 rotation' with thes shaft-1220', Y whereby 'rotation off'the knobl 416" will-effect Ea icorrespineliiig .rotation of fthe shaft 2tlfth'ed'ruml9 anda isecondfgean 1.00
30, which gear is mounted on the end of the shaft 2O opposite to the end bearing the drum 19. Associated with the base 10 and the bracket 27, a guide trough 31 is provided, within which a rack 32 is mounted for longitudinal movement, the rack teeth of which are in mesh with the teeth of the gear 30, whereby rotation ofthe shaft 20 and the gear 30 will cause a corresponding longitudinal movement of the rack 32. The rear end of the rack 32 is adjustably associatediby a screw 33 with an operating shaft 34, which may extend through a suitable bearingassembly 35 of the motor board 36 of the vehicle. The bearing structure includes a coupling for uniting the flexible operating cable 37 with the operating shaft 34. It will beV understood, of course, that the rack 31 may,
if desired, be directly associated with the cable 37. p l
By this structure, it will be seen that the present device provides means readily attached to the instrument board of the vehicle, whereby the turning of a control knob will longitudinally move al flexible cable. structure provides improved means for indicating the position of the condensers of an associated apparatus, and further provides a simple and efficient structure applicable to the instrument panel without distortion or cutting thereof, and one which may be readily removed and replaced.
For operating the condensers of the radio apparatus which are indicated in Fig. 4 by the numeral 38, it will be seen that .the apparatus endof the cable 37 is provided with a rack 38, movablein a rack drive 39. The main condenser shaft 40 is provided with a gear 41 co-operating with the teeth ofthe rack 38, whereby longitudinal movement of the cable will move the rack yto rota-te the shaft `40 by the interconnection therebetween of thel cable41.
The apparatus 30 is indicated as having a plurality of condensers arranged for gang movement by suitable connecting belts 42. It will be understood, however, that the present invention is not confined to this structure andd any equivalent arrangement mayV be use it is also indicated in 4, that the shaft 23 is adapted for co-operation with the cable 43, whereby the volume control of the apparatus may be controlled by rotation of the cable in response to rotation of the shaft 23. The cables 43 and 37 are, as indicated, preferably armored cables, whereby they are not liable to interfere due to the extension of these cables to a remotely positioned apparatus.
In connection with the present invention, it will be understoodthat the device is not conlined to the specific detail structures herein presented, but that numerous changes, modifications, and the full use of equivalents may be resorted to in the application of the The invention without departing from the spirit or scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A control device of the class described comprising a supporting structure adapted to be secured to the lower edge of a suitable support and having a hollow front panel for disposition in front of the support, an indicating tape, means carried by said structure mounting the tape for movement, said means being of such character that two leads of the tape may pass beneath said support into said frontk panel through its lower end, said front panel having a sight opening therein so that a portion of the tape will be visible, and means carried by said structure which cooperates ywith the first mentioned means to control the movement of the tape.
2. A control device of the class described comprising a supporting structure adapted to be secured to the lower edge of a suitable support and having a hollow front panel for disposition in front of the support, an indicating tape, means carried by said structure mounting the tape for movement, said means including a rotatable drum at the rear of said front panel and of such character that two leads ofthe tape may pass beneath said support into said front panel, through its lower end, said front panel having a sight opening therein so that a portion of the tape will be visible,
. andmeans carried by said structure which is operatively connected with said drum to rotate it to control the movement of the tape.
