Another object of this invention is to provide, in a pump of this kind, means for outting solid particles prior to entrance of the articles into the pump mechanism.
A further object of this invention is to provide a readily portable'pump ofthis land in which allcheck valve members found in numerous pumps have been eliminated.
The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in, andin part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated inthe accompanying drawin 5, wherein igure 1 is a detail front elevation of a pump constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention;

Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a pump casing or housing comprising a pair of elongated tubular members 11 and 11 which have their 5 abutting wall portions cut away so as to provide a substantially unitary housing structure of tubular construction. The housing or casing 10 is provided adjacent the upper end thereof with an outlet spout 12, and the lower end 13 of the housing is preferably passupwardly through the housing 15 and the upper end of the housing 10 so as open as at 13, so as topermit the liquids to 10. Disposed longitudinally through the tubular section 11 is a pump shaft 14 which at the lower end thereof is rotatablymountedin a 5 transversely disposed bearing 15 which is mounted in the lower end of the housing 10.] The upper end of the shaft 14 extends through a cap or head 15, and a pulley 16 is secured tothe upper end of the shaft 14.,the pulley being adapted to receive a belt or be otherwise connected to a power member for rotation thereof. The cap15 comprises a top plate 1? having downwardly extending flanges 18 engaging about the outer surface of the housing members 11 and 11, and a lug 19 is secured to each side of the housing 10- adjacent the upper end thereof for threadably receiving a bolt member20 which extendsthrough a securing bar 21. a This securing bar 21 is adapted. to remov ably secure the head or cap 15 on the upper end of the housing 10. A gasket 22 is inter posed between the inner surface ,of thercap 1 to effectively seal the cap within the housing. A second shaft 23 is disposed within. the other tubular member 11' and is rotatably mounted at the lower end thereof in the. transversely disposed bearing 15 carried by the lower end of the housing 10 and the upa per end of the shaft 23 extends through the head or cap 15. A gear24 is mounted-on the upper endof the shaft 23 andnieshess with adrive gear 25 mounted onithe'drive shaft 14. In this manner, the sh'aft23 will rotate reversely fromthe shaft 14.
A' plurality of water lifting members or propellers generally designated as 26 are secured to the drive shaft 14 at spaced intervals therealong, these water lifting members or propellers 26 comprising a hub section 27C which engages about the periphery of the shaft 14 and is secured thereto by means of a securing pin 28 or the like. A. plurality of. spirally disposed bladesj29 aresecuredto the hub 27 and the outer edges of these blades 29 extend closely adjacent the innersurface of the tubular member 11. The lower edge of each blade '29 is preferably. disposed in a having a slight pitch so as to cooperate withthe propeller blades 29 in raising water or the like in the tube 11. What is claimed is a j A pumpof the character described comprising in combination, a housing having an open lower end, a pair of shafts rotatably mounted inthe housing in spaced parallel relation to each other, gears carried by each shaft whereby to rotate one shaft reversely from-the other, an outlet spout secured to the housing, a plurality of spaced interengaging spirally disposed liquid lifting blades mounted onsaid shafts, and cutter members carried by each of said shafts'adjacent' 'one end thereof and 'in spaced"relati0n to the lowermostblade-whereby to cut articles being drawn through'the housing by the blades.
