Description

CANDLE STICK Filed March 30, 1931 Patented May 23, 1933 UNITED STATES WILLARD L. MORRISON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS CANDLE STICK This invention relates to candle sticks and has for its object to provide a new and 1mproved device of this description. The 1nvention has as a further object to provide a 5 candle stick by means of which the entire candle may be utilized and burned. The invent-ion has as a further object to provide a candle stick for use with a candle which burns at both ends. The invention has as a 30 further object to provide a candle st ck arranged so that the entire portion which engages the candle will be open to the atmosphere so that oxygen may be provlded for burning the entire candle. The invent1on has further objects which are more particularly pointed out in the accompanying descrlption.
Referring now to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a view showing one form of device embodying the invention showing the candle in position' Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 8 is a view showing the candle in position and just before it is entirely consumed.
Referring now to the drawing, I have shown one form of device embodying the invention. In this construction there is a candle engaging part 1 which is preferably curved and which is open at the top. The candle used is a continuous candle which burns at both ends. As herein shown the candle consists of the members 2 and 3 con nected together by the connecting member l.
The candle engaging part 1 is grooved and the lower end of the candle is received in this groove. The candle engaging part 1 has its upper edges 5 and 6 bent outwardly so as to be out of engagement with the candle. These outwardly bent parts also act to catch any melted wax produced by the candle. The candle is provided with a wick 7 which extends entirely therealong, the ends of which project from the ends of the candle. The wick is preferably continuous throughout the candle The candle engaging part 1 is preferably curved in the are of a. circle and the upper ends preferably project above the center 8 of the are. This prevents the upper ends 2 and 3 of the candle from bending outwardly. The upper edge of the candle engaging part also projects outwardly so as to leave a space between it and the candle for receiving any melted wax.
It will be noted that the candle engaging part 1 is open to the atmosphere throughout the entire portion which engages the candle, so that oxygen is freely supplied to the wick at all times, thereby permitting the entire candle to be burned. Fig. 3 shows the candle burning at both ends when about completely burned. The candle engaging part 1 is provided with any suitable base, and as herein shown is mounted upon a base 10. In the construction illustrated the candle engaging part 1 is entirely separate from the base and is attached thereto by the fastening device 11. On opposite sides of the fastening device 11 and the engaging members 12 which are attached to the base and to the candle engaging part 1.
It will be seen that in this construction there is a laterally extending candle engaging member which has a laterally extending groove therein, in which a portion of the candle is received to support it.
I claim:
1. A candle stick for a single candle having two upstanding substantially parallel end portions which burn simultaneously and which are connected together by a central bent connecting portion, comprising a receiving holding member into which the central bent connecting portion of the candle is received and which holds the candle in a fixed position while the candle is burning, the holding member extending initially only part way along the two substantially parallel end portions of the candle, the burning ends of. said end portions being free of the said receiving holding member so that they may both be easily lighted and burned simultaneously.
2. A candle stick for a single candle having A two upstanding substantially parallel end portions which burn simultaneously and which are connected together by a central bent connecting portion, comprising a receiving holding member into which the central bent connecting portion of the candle is received and which holds the candle in a fixed position While the candle is burning, the holding member extending initially only part Way along the two substantially parallel end portions of the candle, the burning ends of said end portions being free of the said receiving holding member so that they may both be easily lighted and burned simultaneously, said receiving holding member having its upper edges separated similar to the bent portion of the candle received therein, said upper edges being bent outwardly so as to be out of engagement with the candle.
Signed at Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 25th day of March 1931.
