Description
May 23, 1933. R L N' 1,910,476
' IDENTIFICATION DEVICE Filed May 18, 1952 INVENTOR ATTOR N EY Patented May 23, 1933 PATENT OFFICE JAMES M. RUIDNG, OF GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA.
IDENTIFICATION DEVICE Application filed May 18,
The invention relates to an identification device and more especially to an identification holder.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a case is so constructed as to carry therein an identification chart, the latter having indicia thereon for the purposes of exhibiting certain data for identification purposes as for example, a photograph, the latter being visible from without the case, the name, address and finger-print of such identified person, the name and address being also visible from without the case, and other identifying indicia will be present upon the chart so that positive proof can be shown by the possessor of the device to enableproper identification of such person.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form, it being compact, neat and attractive in appearance and is of a size to permit the 5 same to be conveniently carried in the pocket of the clothing of a person and the chart will serve for identification proof of the possessor oruser of the device.
A further object of the invention is the v 30. provision of a device of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and
pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 looking toward the opposite face of the device.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 1982. Serial No. 612,081.
44 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the chart, the leaves or sections carrying indicia being extended or open.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the identification device comprises a case A pref- 5 erably made from metal and including the sections 10 and 11 respectively, these being of circular formation and being adapted tomatch each other. The sections 10 and 11 are joined through the medium of a hinge 12 so that said sections can be opened and closed and when closed will be held together by a latch 13, the section 11 being formed with an inset annular rim or flange 14 over which telescopes the marginal circular edge of the section 10 when the said sections are brought to closed position.
The section 10 is provided with a window 15 preferably of the shape as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, while the section 11 is 7 also provided with a window 16, it preferably being of the shape. as shown in Figure 3 of the drawing.
Removably held within the case A is a chart which includes a plurality of disk-like 0 leaves or sections 17 these being joined through the medium of a connector hinge portion 18 so that the chart is of ribbon-like character and upon the respective faces of the leaves or sections 17 are indicia 19, such for example, the name and address of a person, the fingerprint of such person and other identifying data, as for example, occupation,
description, lodge association or other oificial identifying matter. The chart is placed within the case A so that the name and address of a person will be exposed through the window '16, while fitted within the sections 10 for exposure through the window 15 therein is a photograph 20 of the person and this with the chart having the indicia 19 thereon will exhibit identifying matter for the possessor or user of the device.
It is of course to be understood that while the device is shown of 'a particular shape,
such sha can be varied as the device is susceptib e of being made square, oval or any other shape."
What is claimed is:- a 5 A device of the kind described comprising a plurality of disk-like members hinged alternately at opposite sides with each other to provide an extensible chart, said members having on opposite faces thereof identify 10 ing indicia, and a hingedly connected twopart casing receiving said members and, havmg exposure openings in said parts for ex; hi iting indic1a on the members next thereto 7 v In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
