This invention relates in general to a lighting fixture particularly for bathroom and toilet cabinets, but may have a more general application wherever it can be used. 7

Among the objects of the invention are: to provide an adjustable lighting fixture which may be applied at the edges of a bathroom or other cabinet; to provide a marginal fixture which is adjustable over the top and sides of a cabinet or the like; to provide a marginal cabinet fixture with adjustably movable lamps; to provide a centrally located adjustable fixture box cover; to provide a marginal fixture with slots in which the lamps are slidable and to cover the slots above and below the lamps; to providea fixture of this kind with removable knockouts for admitting the fixture wires at the sides or top of the adjustable fixture; and in general to provide the fixture herein shown and described. It is customary to provide lamps for bathroom and other cabinets and mirrors which extend over the top or at the sides of the cabinet in fixed position. Such illumination usually is too remote and is so improperly placed and fixed in position to be of thegreatest value. The present invention overcomes this objection by providing adjustable lamps at the sides of sucha cabinet where their positions may be varied to obtain'the desired illumination;

Another feature of the present invention is that the fixture presented is adjustable and may be applied to existing cabinets of various sizes without removing them from the wall and by simply connecting the conductors of this marginal fixture with the adjacent wiring'or outlets i I i c Referring more particularly to the drawing, a bathroom or other cabinet 1 of a well known type is represented as having a hinged door 2 in the outer face of which is a mirror 3. This cabinet may have alower shelf or compartment 4 which 'is not covered by-the door or it may consist only of the upper portion without the compartment 1. The mar ginal fixture of this invention is combined with and applied directlyto the upper and side edgesv of the cabinet, the marginal fixture being comparatively fiat in shape so that if the cabinet projects slightly from the face of a wall 5 in which it is set, the marginal frame will be substantially flush withit and may appear as an extension or an integral part of the cabinet itself. The fixture come prises a pair of casings 6 and 7 preferably of metal and hollow or recessed on the under side to receive the wiring. The casings have angular extensions 8 and 9 to extend toward each other over. the top of the cabinet with an adjustable center piece 10 which covers and forms a joint between the upper ends and allows a considerable lateral adjustment so that the side portions may fit cabinets of vvarious widths. The top-of this center piece 10 may be provided with a central removable portion as shown in connection with the side portions or it may have an upward extension 11 inplace thereof which in turn is cov-- ered by a telescoping upward extension 12 preferably having ,anornamental plate or cover box 13 for extending over and covering an electric conductor outletbox 14 which is commonly located in the wall 5 above the cabinet. v 1 v j t The outer sides of the casing-s 6' and 7 may be provided with a partiallysevered knockout plug 15 as indicated more clearly in Figure 3 through which the conductors may extend instead of through the top piece 10 if it is more convenient to so connect them.

In the outer face of each side casing is a slot 16 through-which extends the stem 17 of a fixture bracket 18 for supporting an electric lampsocket and an electric lampi20. This fixture stem has an inner projection 21 to the stem projection 21 and; bears against the inside of the slot to close it for preventing the entrance of dirt and to present a neat and sightly appearance. Preferably the strip 23 is passed over rollers 24 at the ends of the slot so that it is moved upon them as the lamp fixture is raised and lowered, the frictional resistance also tending to hold the lamp in any adjusted position. I Extending between the sides of the casing i's'a guard 25 which holds the rear side of the strip 23 in place and preserves a space for containing an elec trical conductor 26 which extends loosely between the front and back portions of the strip 23 and between the upper and lower roller 24 to make a connection with the fixture stem 17, allowing free movementof the fixturesupport in the slot 16. The other portions of the conductors 26 extend through the casing and to the outlet connection.

This fixture may be attached directly .to the side wall of thecabinet itself or to the wall at the edges of the-cabinet by means of a fastening device such as a screw 27.

30 and 31 for vending and receiving razor'blades 32, the vending receptacle having a slot 33 for receiving a coin'and the other receptacles having aslotf34 for receiving a used blade. It is also contemplated that one or both side casings may have a'fixture plug 35 for receiving andforming a plug-in electrical connection. I V V An adjustable edge light fixture of this kind can be installed with a new cabinet or it may be applied to cabinets of various sizes after they'have been installed. If desired, the sidecasings may also be made telescoping or adjustable in length, one portion slipping {into the other'as shown at the top of the cabinet, the upper section preferably being the fixed portion.

It is also contemplated that an edge light fixture of this kind may be made withside casing portionsonly, which are applied at the sides or edges of cabinets of the kind referred to, or the fixtures may be used separately betweeniwindows'or. as wall fixtures, or inany place'in which lighting fixtures are commonly used; The obvious advantage of this type of fixture is that it may be adjusted to various heights and when so moved will remain in place until again moved'or adjusted'. Furthermora'the casingsmay be embedded-or inserted in walls or other places where lights are desired, the slot'only being cur to one skilled in this art.

I claim:

1 A lighting fixture for cabinets and the like, comprising a narrow marginal frame adapted to fitcloselyabout the top and sides of a cabinet, means for adjusting the width of the frame for cabinets of different widths,

and means carried by the frame for lighting a cabinet therein.

2. A cabinet lighting fixture comprising a narrow marginal frame to extend over the top and downwardly over the side edges of a cabinet and the top portion being adjustable for cabinets of different widths, and electric lamp fixtures carried by and slidable in the side portions of the frame.

3. The combination with a cabinet adapted to be inserted in a wall, and having a front mirror supporting hinged door, of a lighting fixture therefor comprising a comparatively shallow frame adapt-ed to abut the wall at the sides and over the top of the cabinet, the top portion of the frame telescoping to adjust the width of the frame, and lamp supporting means slidably in the side portions of the frame to illuminate the mirror without obstructing the door in opening and closing 4. A cabinet lighting fixture comprising a narrow frame to fit about the top and sides of a cabinet, lighting means carried by the frame and an adjustable extension of the frame to extend to and cover an outlet box for the light conductors.

5. A cabinet lighting fixture comprising a narrow frame adjustable to fit about three sides of a cabinet and having a slotin the outer face of the frame, an electric'fixture support movable'in the slot and a cover strip carried by the fixture support to close the slot above and below the. fixture support when it is moved therein;

An electric fixture for a wall cabinet comprising an adjustable narrow recessed frame adapted to fit closely about the top and side'ed'gesof a cabinet and having slots at the opposite sides-thereof, fixture supports yieldinglymovable in the slots, slot closing stripsmovable with the fixture supports, end rollers overwhich thestrips are movable and conductorwires extending about the frame from a common'inlet point and extending to the fixture supports between the end rollers and movable strips in a loose loop at each side of the frame to permit unobstructed movement of the 'fixture support.

7. A wall cabinet lighting fixture comprising a narrow frame adapted to fit closely about the top and sides of the cabinet and comprising a telescopic adjustment for fitting cabinets of difierent Widths, fixture supports and slots in the sides of the frame in which they are slidable, and means forming a plurality of removable conductor outlets and a flexible electrical conductor to extend from any one of the outlets and form a loose connection with the fixture supports Within the frame to permit unobstructed movement of the supports in the slots of the frame.
