Description

May 16, 1933. r A. FRQISLAND 0 5 I PUIP FOR THE CONVEYANCE 0F THICK FLUID PULPS Filed April 26, 1930 A andur 2 /23 Zarzd Patented May 16, 1933 PATENT OFFICE 'AIUIDUB' IBI8LAND, OI; OSLO, NORWAY I I rm m m coma anon or 'rnrcx rmnn roars Application am! April as, 1030, Serial Io. 441,494, (1.11; Norway, in; 1, was.
The present invention relates to a pump for the conveyance of thick-fluid pulps, particularly concentrated wood pulp and the like, the novelty of the invention consistlng in rotatably mounting within -a suitable casing one or more knives of such shape that while cuttin through' the pulp there is set up at one si e, by reason of the vacuum created duringthe rotation of the knives a suction of the pulp into the pump casing and at the other side a static pressure thereon, whereby a suitable and economically advantageous conveyance of the pulp is secured.
\ The invention is illustrated by way of exaniple in the annexed drawing, wherein:
ig. 1 shows a cross section of a pump ;in accordance with the invention.
Fi 2 is a side view of the pump wheel the line 11-11 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing 1 denotes the pump casing with pulp inlet 2 and pulp outlet 3'. The pump wheel which is keyed to the end of the shaft 4 consists of a circular plate 6 connected to the hub 5. The plate carries two knives 7, 8, of such shape that the ratio of increase of their radial depth to the angle subtended atthe centre of rotation-is substantially constant. In order to facilitate cutting through the pulp, the front edges of the knives are pointed and in order to stiffen the knives and facilitate iding of the pulp the knives are also provi ed on the inlet'side with lateral flanges extending from they front ed e of the knife and the exterior edge of w ich joins the knife at a suitableangular distance therefrom. 9 denotes a stationary plate which by means of the arm 10 is carried from the wall in the pump casing inlet. The purpose of this blade is. to prevent the pulp following the knives during their rotation.
The pump operatesinthe following manner:
During their rotation the knives willcut through'the' ulp with their edges. The spiral shape 0 the knives will have the effect that during their rotation a vacuum will be developed on their interior side which will secure a supply of pulpto' the interior of the -p ump, wheel, whereas on the exterior, the knives will exert a static conveying presure to choke up the passages, the plate 9 preventing the pulp from rotating with the knives.
'Iclaim: 1. A pump for thick-fluid pulps characterized by a pump wheel having kmfe-shaped blades perpendicularly supported by a radial disc provided with a. hub and mounted on a shaft in such manner that the central. portion of the pump wheel is open, the pulp obtaining free access thereto notwithstanding its consistency, said blades being of such shape that during rotation they create on the one side a vacuum inducing a flow of the pulp supply, whereas on the other side they set 02 by the blade knives, whereby the pulp is conveyed outwardly in direct proportion to the angular motionof'the wheel.
a static pressure action upon the pulp cut i 2. A pump for thick-fluidpulps, characterizedby a pump wheel having blade or blades su ported a radial provided with a hu and mounted on a shaft 7 in such manner that the central portion of the pump wheel is open, the pulp obtaining free access thereto notwithstanding its consistency said blade or blades being of such shape that during rotation they create on the one side a vacuum inducing a flow of the pulp supply, whereas on the other side they set up a static pressure action upon the ulp cut oil by the knives, whereby the pn p 18 conveyed outwardly in direct proportion vto the angular motion of the wheel, the knife ed s of the wheel at the side opposite the ra ial supporting disc having lateral reinforcing flan s, the height of which decreases uniformly rom the front edge of the blade knife inwardly to the peripheral surface of the vknife. I
' 3. A ump for thick fluid pulps, characterized y a pump wheel having a knifeshaped blade of semi-circular curved shape eccentrically, mounted thereon so that during rotation creates on the one side a vacuum inducing a flow of the pulpsupply, whereas a knife-shaped 7 isc on the other side it sets upa static pressure action upon the pulp cut off, by the knives, whereby the pulp is. conveyed outwardly in direct proportion to the angular'motion of 5 the wheel, and a stationary bafile being arranged for preventing the pulp from rotating with the blade wheel, said blade on the wheel being disposed perpendicular to the face of thepump wheel.
4. A pump for thick-fluid pulps comprising a casing having an inlet and outlet, and a pump wheel within the casing and rotatable therein, said wheel having a plurality of curved blade s 'eccentrically disposed about 16 the center of the wheel, and perpendicular to the face of the wheel, the cutting edge of one blade being in vertical alignment with the cutting edge of the other blade, whereby to provide a space therebetween for the injec- 20 tion and expulsion of the pulp on rotary action of the blades. 4
5. In a conveying pump for thick fluid pulp, a pump wheel having a radial disc, a plurality of semicircular knifeblades proecting perpendicularly from the disc and eccent-rically mounted thereon so that the ratio of increase of their radial depth to the angle subtended at the center of rotation of the wheel is substantially constant whereby I during rotation the pug is conveyed outwardly of the pump in ect proportion to the angular motion of the wheel, and a stationary bafile plate-mounted in the pump extending into the wheel beneath t e knife edge of the blades for preventing p1 j p from following the blades during their rotation.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature.
