STREET MARKER Filed Feb; 1, 1932 4 MAINST. k ,6 a Q a 5 6 4' a QWMM M M f fzw Patented May 9, 1933 UNITED STATES LENOIR Hum, or
HOUSTON, TEXAS STREET ,MARKER Application filed February 1, 1932. Serial No. 590,191.
This invention relates to a street marker. An object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described of such special construction as to adapt it particularly for use at street crossings for carrying the street names.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described that is not only adapted for marking or indicating the streets but also for carrying traffic information or other information desired-to be conveyed to those using the streets.
A further feature of the invention is to provide a street marker of the character described, that is of very simple construction and may be cheaply erected and maintained and which, at the same time, will be very strong and durable.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 shows a side elevation of the marker.
Figure 2 shows a rear elevation thereof.
Figure 3 shows a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 and Figure 1 shows a perspective view.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates a supporting post which is preferably tubular in form and composed of metal and which carries the top cap 2 on the upper end there of. This post is preferably set in the concrete of the street curbing at any selected depth to give it the required support. There is an angle iron forming the horizontal arms 3, 3 at right angles to each other. This angle iron 40 is fitted to the post 1 adjacent its upper end and suitably secured thereto as by welding and is widened at the post for strength. The arms 3, 3 are arranged parallel with the corresponding streets. Secured to each arm are the upper and lower metal plates 4, 5 whose adjacent edges overlap and are secured to the respective arms by the bolts 6, 6. These plates are secured to the rear sides of the arms 3 and the front side of the upper plate is designed to carry the name of the street as shown in Figures 1 and 4 while the bottom plate 5 may carry traffic direction or instructions or other information designed to be imparted to the traveling public. The arms 3 form dividers so as to separate the name of the street from the matter carried on the lower plate 5 to the end that the street name will stand out prominently.
The drawing and description disclose what is now considered to be a preferred form of the invention by way of illustration only, while the broad principle of the inven-f I display surface depending from each arm and whose upper margin overlaps the lower margin of the corresponding upstanding plate said lower plate being wider, vertically, than the corresponding upper plate, bolts fitted through said arms and through said overlapping margins and forming means for securing said plates to said arms.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
LENOIR HUNT.
