The advantages incident to the construction shown in Figure '9 is that the lid can be takendown to'save space in shipping. The lid, however, may be of any desired form. r
In the tubular top member 22, there are the top 22. The lid 24a may be made in sec- 9 vertically elongated openings 29. Keepers 30, in the form of teeth are formed in the top member 22, at the lower end of each of the openings 29. Closures 31 slide on the outer surface of the tubular top member 22 and control the openings 29. The closures 31 have trough-shaped flanges 32 in which the constituent material of the tubular top member 22 is received, 'at one edge of the o ening 29. The construction is such that the c osures 31 may he slid horizontally to vary the size of the openings, thereby adapting the device for small chickens, as well as for" chickens of considerable size. hen theclosures 31 are adjusted horizontally, their lower edges are received inthe teeth 30. 'The closures 31 are supplied at their upper edges with notches 33 receiving the top member 22 at the upper edge of the openings 29. Clips 34 are secured by bolts 35 to the top member 22 and overlap the upper ends of the closures 31. By tightening up thebolts 35, the clips 34 maybe fasteneddown on the, closures 31 and in this way, the closures may be held in any position to which they have been adjusted, along the notches or keepers 30.
.The numeral 19 designates a water receptacle which may be a jug, closed at its upper end by a cork 20. The receptacle 19 rests removably in the removable water pan 10 and has a hole 21 in its side, near to the bottom. The water receptacle 19, having been. removed, is filled with water, the cork 20 being removed, and a plug, (not shown) being inserted in'the hole 21. After the water receptacle has been filled, the cork20 is replaced, the waterreceptacleis disposed in the pan lO, and the plug in the-hole'21 is pulled out. Water will then flow out into the pan 10 until the hole 21 iscovered, and there will always he an adequate supply of waterjin the pan 10, the water being accessible through the openings 29, so that the fowls can drink.
..If desired, the water receptacle 19 can be taken out, and in its placein the pan 10 a tubular receptacle 36, open atsboth ends, and supported on legs 37, may be used.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is so constructed that it can be used to dispense either food or drink, the material dispensed being heated, or not, at the will of an operator. The construction is such that the contents of the'device cannot be fouled or wasted. The conical lid v 24 preventsfowls from roosting on the top of the device.
