Description

May 2, 1933. E. A, PIERCE 1,907,187
DENTISTS EMERGENCY UNIT Filed July 22, 1930 I] y ATTORNE Patented May 2, 1933 UNITED STATES EDWARD ALLEN PIERCE, OE PORTLAND, `OREGON DENTIST S EMERGENCY UNITV Application filed July 22,
My invention is intended primarily for the use of the medical profession and more particularly for the use of dentists wherein the essential elements for the use of the dental or medical man may be placed therein for emergency use.
rl`he device consists of a box preferably made of non-corrosive material having a lid hingedly secured to the body of the box and having means for maintaining the lid in a locked position. A plurality of compartments are disposed within the device in which the essential medical elements may be placed and a removable tray is disposed within the box that is normally. maintained in spaced relationship with the bottom of the box into which the instruments may be laced. The box and its entire contents may be maintained in a sterile condition by medicated agencies or through the application of heat so that the same, when taken by the medical or dental practitioner, may be in a sterile condition when taken and in which condition the same may be maintained and used and after use the entire contents and the box itself may be resterilized for further and future use.
The object of my invention is to provide the medical or dental practitioner with an emergency unit that may be maintained in a sterilized and usable condition at all times and in which the essential elements for emergency purposes may be kept and from which the same may be taken and used, as desired.
A further object of my invention consists in providing an emergency unit that is relatively small and in which the essential elements may be placed and which the practitioner may take upon emergency calls and through the dispensing of the contents of which, practically any and all emergency cases may be handled.
A still further object of my invention consists in providing abox having a plurality of 5 compartments, each of which is adapted for receiving articles therein and for the maintaining of the same therein, in usable form, until used.
A still further object of my invention consists in providing a box having a plurality of 1930.` serial No. 469,692.
vertically disposed compartments into which bottles may be placed and maintained in a vertical position Vuntil used.
With these and incidental objects in. view, the invention consists in certain novel featuresof construction Vand combination lof parts,'the essential elements of which are set forth in the appended claim, and a preferred form of embodiment of which is hereinafter shown with reference to the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of this specifcation. Y A l In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective. frontview of the assembled box, partially broken away at its front wall to show the internal `construction of the same, thelid being shown'as in* an openedv condition.
Fig. 2 is a sectional, side view of the assembled device. y i
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views.
VI preferably form my box as having end walls land 2, a front wall 3 and a rear wall 4. The bottom 5 of the box preferably extends beyond the walls to form an outwardly extending ledge entirely around the bot-` tom of the same. A'primary partition 6 extends from the end walls 1 and 2 and in spaced relationship with the rear wall 4.
The bottom 7 of the partition terminates substantially below the top of the walls. A plurality of partitions 8 are disposed between the primary partition 6 and the rear wall 4L. The object of the partitions is to form a plurality of compartments 9, each of which is adapted to receive a bottle, or vial therein, and to maintain the same in a substantially vertical condition. A re movable tray 10 is removably disposed within the box, the same being supported upon corner posts 11 that are placed within the oppositely disposed corners of the primary compartment composing the box and upon which the tray rests, upon its oppositely dis-k posed corners. The bottom 12, of the tray, is' disposed in spaced relationship with the bottom 5 to form a compartment into which medical instruments and supplies may be placed. The closure 13 is hingedly secured to the body of the device by any suitable hinging means 14. A spring snap fastener l5 is secured to the front Wall of the box, the locking lug 16 of Which is adapted to engage Within the slot 17 of the fastener plate and to maintain the lid closed against a reacting element. A plunger 18 outwardly extends through the front Wall Which'is adapted for hand manipulation and to disengage the locking lug from the locking plate. Itis highly desirable that a fastener of this kind be used, as the emergency unit is truly intended as an emergency unit and the locking of the same might, in a degree, spoil the utility of the same especially if it were key locked.
While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form of einbodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms, all coming Within the scope of the claim IWhich follows.
What I claim is: A
A container of the class described, comprising a bottom, side Walls, end Walls and a lockable hinged closure therefor, a tray formed With a bottom, side Walls and end Walls, arranged Within the container and supported in spaced relation to the bottom thereof by reinforcing members Within the container', a vertical wall arranged longitudinallyof the container abutting one Wall of the tray and extending above the bottom thereof to prevent displacement of the tray with respect to the container, va plural-ity of partitions arranged in spaced relation longitudinally of the boX and having their edges on one side abut the side Wallof the container and their opposite edges abutting the vertical Wall.
