This invention relates to sterilizing apparatus, and more especially to a sterilizer adapted for use by barbers, beauty specialists, and the like. 7
An object of the invention is to provide a convenient and efiiciently operating sterilizer, whereby such implements as hair clippers, combs, trimming scissors, and the like may be sterilized, and, subsequent tosterilizat-ion, stored in a sterile compartment where they will be readily available for use.
The invention possesses other objects and advantageous features, some of which, with those enumerated, will be set forth in the following description of the inventions particular embodiment which is illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of the specification.

The sterilizing apparatus of the present inventioncomprises a housing 6,within the lower portion of which a storage chamber 7 is provided. Preferably glass panels 8 are 5 provided in the end walls 9 of the housing 6,
whereby the chamber 7 is defined, and a door 11 controls an opening 12 in the front wall 13, thereby permitting access to the interior of the chamber. The door 11 is mounted on alined hinges 14, each of which preferably is provided with a spring 16 which continually urges the door closed. I prefer that the parts be so proportioned and arranged that when the door 11 is closed its edges overlap the front wall 13 throughout the entire peripheral edge of the opening 12, so as to establish a relatively tight seal between the door 11 and the front wal1 13, the purpose being to keep the interior of the compartment 7 sterile, inasmuch as this compartment is intended for use in storing implements which previously have been sterilized in the sterilizing reservoir 17 which is car-v ried by the housing 6 above the chamber 7.
Preferably, the reservoir 17 is removably mounted upon the housing 6,-and for this purpose a corner post 18 (see Fig. 5) is provided at each corner of the chamber 7 extending for a considerable distance above the top thereof. Each of these corner posts 7 is of angle construction, permitting the reservoir 17 to be inserted thereinto with each corner of the reservoir in engagement with the inside surface of one of the corner posts 18. A flange 19 extends inwards from each corner post to engage the bottom 21 of the reservoir 17 and limit the distance that the reservoir 17 can be lowered within the housing 6. r
The reservoir; 17 comprises front, back, 30 and end walls'22, 23, and 24, respectively, extending upwards from the peripheral edge of the bottom 21, and a top wall 26 which extends forwards from the 'upper edge of the back wall 23 a short distance to- 85 ward the front wall 22. An inverted, boxshaped cover 27 is hinged as at to the forward edge of the top wall 26. This construction permits the cover 27 to be swung to open position, whereby the back wall 28 of the cover 27 will be caused to rest upon the top wall 26 of the reservoir 17. Hence, the cover will remain open by gravity. A handle 29 is provided upon the front wall 31 of the cover 27 to facilitate its manipulation. When closed the lower edges of the front wall 31, end walls 32, and back wall 28 of the cover rest upon the upper edges of the front wall 22 and end walls 24, and the forward edge of the top wall 26, respectively of the reservoir 17. Furthermore, I prefer to provide a suitable gasket 33 between the reservoir and. the cover 27 to establish a relatively tight seal when the cover is closed. j
A horizontal shelf 36 is provided in the reservoir 17, preferably substantially level with the upper edge of the front wall thereof and extending for; a short distance toward the rear. A partition 37 extends downwards from the after edge of the shelf 36 to the bottom 21, the purpose being to reduce the quantity of sterilizing fluid 38 required to fill the reservoir 17. j Means are provided for supporting various types of barbersandbeauty specialists equipment within the reservoir 17. Adjacent one end of the reservoir a holder 41 for an electric hair clipper, is provided.
This holder 41 comprises abasket structure 42, preferably in the form of a sheet of metal having openings 43 therein permitting free circulation of the sterilizing fluid 38. Adjacent its after edge the basket structure 42 is provided with a flange 44. A screw 46 is threaded through the flange 44,and has its head disposed above the top -wall26, so that it is accessible and may be turned to effect variation in the depth to which the basket structure 42 is immersed within the fluid 38. The strip of which the basket structure 42 is composed inclines forwards and upwards from the forward edge of the basket structure to dispose its forward end 47 upon the shelf 36, to which it issecured'by a screw 48 extending through a slot 49 in the end 47. It is preferred that the parts be so proportioned and arranged that a hair clipper supported within the basket structure 42- will have substantially only its cutting elements immersed within the fluid 38, whereas the remainder of the clipper, i. e., the handle portion within which the electrically operated mechanism is disposed, will extend upwards above the surface of the fluid, thereby preventing damage to the electrical connections by the Adjacent the holder 41 for an electric clipper is another holder 51 for a hand clipper. This holder also comprises a basket structure, which, however,-is secured. only to the under surface of the top wall 26 as by a pair of screws 52. The holder 51 is also of foraminous construction to permit free circulation of the fluid 38. A rod 50 extends transversely of the holder 51 a slight distance above the bottom 53 thereof. The cutters of the hand clippers may be inserted under the rod 50 so as to retain the handles of the clippers elevated above the surface of the fluid with the cutters immersed within the fluid. In order to accommodate cuttersof different size, the rod 50 is made adjustable, and for this purpose it is disposed in slots 54 in the sides 56 of the holder 51 and is adapted to be fastened in selected position by means of a nut 57 threaded upon one end of the rod 52.
A holder 61 for scissors is provided, this holder being mounted upon the shelf 36 in front of the holder 51. The scissors holder 61co1nprises a plate 62 bent to provide a pair of troughs 63, one of which is upon each sideof a central rib 64. This rib 64 is slidably' mounted upon a bracket 66 which is anchored to the shelf 36 by means of a plate 67. Screws 68 threaded to the bracket 64 and extending through slots 69 in the central rib 64 fasten the iplate' 63 in selected position, thereby making it possible to predetermine'the length-0f the blades of the scissors which extend into the fluid 38. The scissors are mounted in the holder 61 by placing the blades in one of the troughs 63 with the handles engaging the upper end of the associated trough 63, thereby prevent-- ing the entire implement from sliding downwards through the trough into the reservoir 17. Another holder 1 for razors is provided. This comprises a plate 72, the forward end 73 of which is fastened to the shelf 36 as by screws 74. From theshelf 36 the plate 72 inclines downwards and toward the rear of the reservoir, so that it is immersed within the fluid 38. A central rib 76 is mounted rigidly upon the plate 72 at the lower, after end thereof, and extending longitudinally of the plate. Upon each side of the rib 7 6 and spaced slightly therefrom, is an adjustable rib 77 which may be anchored in selected position upon the plate 72 by screws 78 extending through transverse slots 79 in the rib. Adjacent its upper end the side edges of the central, fixed rib converge, whereas the adjustable rigs 71 diverge, thereby establishing a throat 81 which leads to each of the slots 82 between the central rib 76 and the adjustable ribs 77. Asclearly shown upon Fig. 3, the sides of the ribs 76 and 77 which define these slots 82 are so inclined that the slots are narrower at the top than at the bottom. This permits a razor blade to be inserted with its back in each of the slots 82 and with the edge extending upwards therefrom, it being understood that the razor has firstbeen opened so that after the blade is thus positioned in one ofthe slots 82 the handle rests upon the shelf 36.
Another holder 86 is provided in the form of an elongated basket structure 87 having holes 88 therein. This holder is intended for one or more combs, and inasmuch as these implements are not ordinarily provided with handles, the holder 86 is so constructed that it will be completely immersed within the sterilizing fluid 38 when the cover 27 is closed, but will have one end elevated out of the fluid 38 when the cover is opened, thereby permitting the operator to grasp and remove a comb from the holder 86 Without having to immerse his fingers in the fluid 38. Hence, the after end 89 of the holder 86 is pivoted as by a pin 91 to brackets 92 which are provided upon the bottom wall 21 of the reservoir 17 preferably adjacent the back wall 23 thereof. Alink 93 is pivoted at its lower end to the holder 86, as by a pin 94, and at its upper end to a lug 96 which is formed upon the inner surface of the top wall 97 of the cover 27. Hence,.
when the cover is raised the link 93 will pull the forward end of the holder 86 up wards out of the fluid, permitting any combs contained within the holder to be removed easily therefrom.
Thus it may be seen that when implements such as electric clippers, hand clippers, scissors, and razors are disposed within the holders 41, 51, 61, and 71, respectively, the handles of the respective implements will not be immersed within the sterilizing fluid 38, whereas those portions of the implements which require sterilization will be so immersed. The handles will eixtend upwards over the shelf 36 and occupy a portion of the space within the box-shaped cover 27 when the cover is closed. When the cover is open, however, the handles are conveniently accessible, so that they may be readily grasped by the operator and removed from the reservoir 17 for use, or to be placed within the storage chamber where they may be kept in a sterile condition until they are desired for use at a later time.

I 'claim:
1. In a sterilizer of the class described, a reservoir adapted to contain a sterilizing fluid, a cover hinged thereto, and a holder comprising a basket structure hinged adjacent one end to said reservoir below the level of the fluid therein, and a link connected at one end to said basket structure and at the other end to said cover, whereby the other end of said basket structure is raised above said fluid level when said cover is opened.
