Description
I. A. BAUM FOOTPLATE FOR DOOR FRAMES April 25, 1933.
Filed March 25. 1929 Fatented Apr. 25, 1933 UNITED STATES ISAAC A. BAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS FOOTPLATE FOR DOOR FRAMES Application filed March 25, 1929. Serial No. 349,633.
My invention relates to frames for door openings, and particularly to a novel foot plate for use with metal bucks.
An object of my invention is to provide simple, inexpensive and effective means for securing a metal buck to a floor and for effectively holding the buck rigidly in position between the floor and ceiling, while the tile or other masonry wall is being laid.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a metal buck with a floor connection arranged in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the foot plate separate from the buck.
In the drawing, I have illustrated a metal buck or frame of generally channel shape having a web 10, constituting a jamb, and flanges 11, adapted to lie alongside of a masonry wall. Angular strips 12 constitute plaster terminals, the strips being suitably welded to the outer faces of the flanges.
The floor plate or attaching member comprises a foot plate 13 suitably apertured as at 14; to receive fastening devices and rovided with upstanding legs 15. These egs are best shown in Fig. 4 and are provided with elongated apertures 16 adapted to receive the bolts 17 which pass through openings in the flanges of the channel and permit limited longitudinal movement between the buck and the U-shaped foot plate.
A cross member or abutment 18 is mounted between the flanges 11 of the channel and bolts 19 welded to or resting upon the foot plate project through the abutment 18. Nuts 20 on the bolts furnish the means for effecting relative longitudinal movement between the parts.
In practice, the buck or frame is installed in the position shown in the drawing, with the bolts 17 somewhat loose. After having been accurately positioned, the nuts 20 are actuated, thus forcing the buck upwardl until it is rigid against the ceiling. When nally in place, the bolts 17 are tightened thus completing the steps of installing.
Obviously the construction is capable of much modification and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a channel frame member constituting a buck of a door frame, a U-shaped floor plate the legs of which are slidably fitted alongside the flanges of the channel, means extending through said legs and flanges for clamping the plate in adjusted position, a cross member tying together the channel flanges, and positively acting screw means acting between said cross member and said floor plate for elevating the door frame buck and for rigidly retaining it in elevated position.
2. In combination, a channel member constituting a buck of a door frame, a U -shaped floor plate having its flanges adjustably connected to said channel member, a cross member intermediate the flanges of the channel member, and means constituting screw jacks for bodily forcing the buck upwardly, each of said screw jacks comprising a member connected to said floor plate and a member engaging the aforementioned cross member. 3. In combination, a channel member constituting a buck of a door frame, a U-shaped floor plate having its flanges adjustably connected to said buck, a cross member connecting the flanges of the buck and means com-, prising a screw jack contacting with the floor plate and said cross member for elevating the door buck.
4;. In combination, a channel shaped buck having flanges, a U-shaped floor plate having its flan es adjustably attached to the lower end 0 the flanges of the buck, a cross member intermediate the flanges of the buck and in spaced relation to the floor plate and elevating means for said buck, said means comprising screw jacks engaging the floor plate and said cross member.
