IMPROVEMENTIN TICKET-CASES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No; 190.502. dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 10, 1877.

, To an whom it may concern The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for taking bill-heads, tickets, envelopes, &c., one by one out of their pigeon-holes or boxes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section of my invention through the line a: :0, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a bot tom view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detailed view of a part thereof.

A represents a box, pigeon-hole, or other similar receptacle, of any suitable dimensions, to receive a pile of envelopes, bill-heads, sheets of paper, or other articles of similar nature. B is the bottom of such box or pigeon-hole, and below said bottom, within the downwardly-projecting sides of the box, is formed a chamber, 0, as shown.

The pile of envelopes, &c., D, is laid on the bottom B, and is'held down thereon by means of weights E attached to the ends of a shaped arm, G, which is at the angle provided with a loop, I), hung on a hook, a, in the roof of the box, the weighted ends of the arm resting on the envelopes near the front end of the box. 4

The front of the box is closed, and provided with a slot, d, extending the entire width of the inside of the box. The inner part of this slot is on a level with the upper surface of the bottom B, and it slopes slightly downward and forward, as shown. The pile of envelopes, 850., when not as long as the box, is held against the front of the box by means of a block, 11,

which has two pins, ff, projecting downward from its under side into holes a 0 made in the bottom B for that purpose. There are a number of these holes in the bottom B, so that the block can be adjusted according to the length of the envelopes, &o.

In hangers h h, below the bottom B, is hung a rock-shaft, I, on which are secured, preferably, two arms, J J, provided at their upper ends with needle-points z, and these ends of the arms J extend up into slots 70 in the bottom B. In the center of the shaft I is an arm, m, projecting downward, and pivoted in the inner forked end of a rod, L, which extends forward through the front of the box below the bottom B, and has a knob, L, on its forward end.

S is a spring, attached to the under side of the bottom B, and its free end pressing against the arm m, as shown.

0n the rod L is a projection, n, which acts .as a stop for the forward movement of the rod as the spring S bears against the arm m to which the rod is attached.

By pressing the rod L inward, the shaft I is turned in its bearings so that the points 1' on the ends of the arms J take hold of the bot tomenvelope or sheet and pull the same, and that only, forward through the slot d sufficiently far to allow the same to be pulled out. The spring S at once returns the working parts to their former position as soon as the pressure is removed from the rod L, and the stop a retains them in proper position for the next operation.

The back of the box A is provided with a hinged door A, so that the envelopes or paper, &;c., will be entirely inclosed and kept free from dust.

This invention may be applied to separate boxes, or to boxes or pigeon-holes made part of a desk, or to any suitable receptacle'where the same may be useful.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A mechanism consisting of rod L, arm m, rock-shaft I, and arms J, provided with points z, for automatically withdrawing envelopes, bill-heads, &c., from pigeon-holes, boxes, or other receptacles for same, substantially as set forth.
