invention relates to a universalfoot piece for cultivator shovels. and the like;
that is to say, a footpiece to which cultivator;
shovels having various types of attaching 6 means maybe secured. i Heretofore, it has been the practice of various cultivator manufacturersto supply. either a so-called open sleeve, or a so-called round. sleeve, foot piece to which the shovels ii) furnished with the implement might be "at tached. Theopen-sleeve-type footpiece is notadapted to receive shovels provided with means for attachment to a roundsleeve-type' .foot piece, and the round sleeve type footv 1'19 piece was not adapted to receive shovels provided with meansfor attachment to the open sleeve-type foot piece. Hence, it has .heretofore been ,necessary to manufacture. and carry instock both-types of foot piecesand 2'0" shovels having both types of mounting means. The main object of the present invention is to eliminate the niecessityfor handling more than one type of foot piece, and this object is accomplished 'by-providing a foot'piece so arranged as to. be capable of receiving all of the more or less standardized types of shovel attaching means. H
' Other objectsuand advantages of the invention 'will be understood by reference to] the following specification and accompanying two sheets of drawings, in which a selected form of'the improved foot piece and various types of shovel-attaching: means are illustrated.
5551 In the drawings:
F'ig. 1 is a side elevation{ i w Fig. 2 is a perspectiveillustrating-the type of shovel shown in Figs. 1', 3 and 5; i
r Fig. 3 is a longitudinalsection through the (40. universal 0 P and theshovel mounted thereon;- a r Figs. 4 and are sections on thelines 4+4.
and 5'5, respectively, of.Fig. 3, thelocation's'of these sections being similarly indi- 4 cated on Fig. 1; 1
Fig. 6 is a side elevation illustrating a' shovel similar to that of Fig. 2, mounted on the improved foot of attaching means; Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7 7of Fig. 6;
piece by a difi'erent type ally aligned openings designated 17 'jfor ,re-
ceiving an attaching. bolt suohfiasls 10f Ja 100 vator shovelsand the like..3 j p Referring now ta-the. drawings, I have illustrated. in Fig. f1 a depending post or bracket 10, which, [it will be understood, is a part secured in any suitable manner to the framework. of a cultivator or like imple ment. The bracket 10 is a normallyfixed '01, stationary member although the same may be mounted for vertical or other adjustment in accordance with well known practice. .j.
The foot" piece 11, whichI have termed a universal foot piece, is pivotallymounted,-as
indicated.- at 12, tothe lower end of the I bracket ,10, and mechanism designated '13 is provided a for yieldably andtadj ustably maintaining the foot piece'll" in predetermined angular relation to the post orcbr'acket 10.. a
The details of construction and operation offthe mechanism designated 13,are,fullyj described in my copending application. 7 In-J asmuchv as the present application is not concernedwith said yielding mechanism 13', further description thereof appearsunnecessaryin this application. g
The foot piece 11 has its front armpor tion provided with a substantially cylindrical lower end portion 14 and a transversely en larged portion 15 adjacent the, upper end of said cylindricalportion 14. Theifoot piece, mayconveniently be .formed of cast metal and ho1low,;as indicated at l 6',,the upper portion being, in efiect,.bifurca ted to straddle; the lower end of the post 10 so as tofacilitate the formation of a durable and firm- ;pivotal'j connection between fthewfo'ot :ipiece. and; bracket. I a 1 *The lower cylindrical. end portion= 14=. is provided with transversely extending, 'axi-
