This invention relates. to boiler cleaners and has particular reference to a boiler cleaner of the type in which a blower element discharges jets of cleaning fluid ad acent the portions of the boiler to be cleaned.
' The invention numbers among 1ts"ob ec ts the provisiono'f means for adjusting the blower element to adjust the jets of cleaning fluid discharged by the same relative to the portions of the boiler to cleaned; the provision of an adjusting means of this character which will permit the ad ustment of the blower element and the head which supplies cleaning fluid to the blower element relative to the wall of thO'bOIlGI' to be cleaned; and the provision of ad ust1ng means of this character which will be readily accessible from a point exterlorly'of the boiler whereby the blower element may be readily adjusted to take care ofiany changes in the relation between the blower element and the boiler incident to operation of the boiler.
Other objects and advantages of the mvention' will becomemore apparent as the following description proceeds particularly when reference is had to the accompanying drawing.
This application is a divlsion of my copending application, Ser1al No. 599,330, filed November 6, 1922..

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional vlew, partly in elevation, of a blower unlt constructed in accordance with the teachings of this 1nvention, and v Figure 2 is an end view of the unit shown in F lgure 1.
Referring then partlcularly to the drawing'wherei'n like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout all views, the numeral 10 designates generally a boiler, which includes the boiler tubes 11a nd the boiler wall 12. The numeral 13 des gnates a rotatable blower mounted therein and connected by a coupling 14 to a swivel tube 15 journaled in the head 16.
This head includes a flanged goose-neck 17 which at its lower end is secured to a flange 18 onthe stationary inlet pipe 19.

To provide a certain degree of resiliency, the pipe 19 is preferably provided with the bend 20 which yields sufficiently to permit a limited movement of the head 16.
The flow of cleaning fluid from the pipe 19 to the blower element is controlled by a 1 valve 21whichseats against: a valve seat 22 and is normally held against its 'seat'by a valve spring '23. A trigger 24 pivoted as at 25 to a bracket 26fcarried by the goose-neck is adapted to engage the stem 27 of the valve 21 to open the same against the tension of the spring 23, and this trigger is actuatedby a cam 28 fixed for rotation with the blower element 13. l
The blower element 13 extends through a 3 wall box 30 mounted in an opening 31- in the boiler wall and is supported by clamps 32 from the boiler tubes.- Aplate 33 seals "the opening between the outer periphery of the blower element and the inner periphery of the wall box, and this plate is'normally held against the wall box flange 34 by means of a spring 35 a v To prevent the entire weight of the blower head being carried by the inletpipe'and'the boiler tubes, there; is provided a capscrew 40 fixed to the flange 340i the wall box and extending through slots 41 in a floater cap 42. Housed. within this floater cap is'a spring 43 which at its lower end abuts against the screw 40 and at its upper end, against a retaining disk 44, the position of which maybe adjusted by a set screw 45. The floater capcarries the sealing plate 83 which is looselysleevedupon the blower element and thus through the swivel tube V carries the head 16.
For adjustably spacing the blower head from the boiler wall, there isprovided a stud 50, fixed a'sat'51 to the flange34. of the wall box, This stud extends through a slot 52 formed in a bracket "53, and this bracket is secured at its lower endas by a capscrew 54 and at. its upper end by'a ti e rod 55-to the head 16. ,As illustrated, the slot 52 is? 7 preferably considerably [larger in diameter than the stud 50, whereby the bracketand the head fixed to. the same may move freely in the plane of the boiler mu but are prevented from movement transversely thereof. A washer 56 engages the bracket 53 and is I in turn engaged by a nut 57 threaded on the end of the stud 50 for determining the position offlthe head 16 relative. to 'thejwall 12.
It will be obvious that by adjustment of the nut 57 on the stud 50, the bracket 53 and the head 16- m-ay be adjusted -toward or away from the boiler wall 12. It will also be obvious that adjustment of the head 16 toward or away from the wall 12 will effect a longitudinal adjustment of the blower elenient lid to position the nozzles 58 thereof relative to the boiler tubes 4. Thus the blower element may be adjusted to take care of shifts in the positions of the tubes relativeto the wall, slight permanent changes in the length of the blower element and other changes of this character which are incidental to the use of the boiler; It will be noted thatin the construction as described, the head 16, as well as the blower element, has. a spring or yielding supportfrom the boiler wall and is thus in reality carried by the boiler wall while still being free to move relative thereto. The bentportion 20 of thepipe 19 provides for floating of the head 16 relative to the boiler wall and provides also for the movement of the blowerelement relative to theportionser the boiler to be cleaned. Thecleaner vide for any changes in therelation of the boiler parts to the cleaner unit parts incielement may therefore be adjusted F to prodent to the operation of the boiler, andthis adjustment may be made from a point ,exteriorly of the boiler.
For the sake of convenience the invention has been described as being embodied in a device for cleaning boilers. It will be apparent, however, that the invention may be embodieclin devices for cleaning apparatuses similar to bollers, and it is to be therefore understood that the term boiler wherever used in the specification or claims is'to beconstrued as meaning a heattransfer apparatus or fluid heater of any character while the term boiler cleaner? is to be construedas meanlng a cleaner forany such apparatus.
, .While the invention has been described withconsiderable detailpit is tojbe clearly understood that the description is for the purposes of illustration only and is not definitive of the limits of the inventive idea. The right is therefore reserved to make such changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts as will fall within the purview of the attached claims.
'What I claim as'rny'invention is: 1. In boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler wall, a blower element projecting through said wall for discharging jets of cleaning fluid adjacent the portions of the boilertobe' cleaned, andaheadarranged exteriorly of'said boiler wall for supplying cleaning fluid to said blower element, said blower elementbeing rotatable relative to said head but fixed against "longitudinal movement with respect thereto, of meaii's for adjusting said blower enmentreiative-to the portions of the boiler to be cleaned, said means including a bracket fixed to mmnma and a member, fixed to said boiler wall and ,adjustably engaging said bracket. 5. In a boiler cleaner construction, the combination with a tubular boiler and a furnace wall for said boiler provided with an aperture, of a soot blower comprising a blower head and a blower member j ournaled in said blower head, the blower member having a portion passing through the aperture in said wall with clearance therein, said blower head being fixed against movement transversely of the furnace wall, said blower member being mounted upon and adapted to move with the tubular boiler, means for yieldably supporting the outer end of said blower member, said means comprising a plate adapted to seal the aperture around the blower member, and a spring coiled about said blower member for holding said plate in sealing position;

In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a boiler wall, and a nozzled blower element projecting through an opening in said wall and permanently located in a position where it extends transversely of spaced portions of the boiler to be cleaned with its discharge nozzles definitely positioned with reference to the said spaced portions to be cleaned, of means for adjusting said blower element in a direction transversely of said boiler portions to compensate for changes incident to operation of the boiler in the original positions of the nozzles thereof with reference to the said portions of the boiler to be cleaned.
7. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a plurality of boiler tubes, a boiler wall, and a nozzled blower element projecting through an opening in said wall and permanently located in a position where it extends transversely of said boiler tubes with its discharge nozzles definitely positioned with reference to the spaces between said boiler tubes, of means for adjusting said blower element in a direction transversely of said boiler tubes to compensate for changes incident to the operation of the boiler in the originalpositions of the nozzles thereof with reference to the spaces between said boiler tubes.
8. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a plurality of boiler tubes, a boiler wall, a nozzled blower element projecting through an opening in said wall and permanently located in a position where it extends transversely of said boiler tubes with its discharge nozzles definitely positioned with reference to the spaces between said boiler tubes, and a fitting disposed exteriorly of the boiler wall for supplying cleaning fluid to the blower element, of means for adjusting said fitting in such a direction as to eflect an adjustment of said blower element in a direction transversely of said boiler tubes to compensate for changes incident to the operation of the boiler, in the original positions of the nozzles thereof with reference to the spaces between said boiler tubes. a l
9. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a plurality of boiler tubes, a boiler wall, a blower element projecting through said boiler wall and extending transversely of said boilertubes, means for supporting said blowerelement from said boiler tubes,
