IMPROVEMENT IN SNOW-GUARDS FOR ROOFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,204, dated May 1, 1877; application filed April 9, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE F. FoLsoM, of Boston Highlands, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Snow-Guard for Roofs, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved snow-guard. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fi 3 is a front elevation.

My invention consists of a right-angled or L-shaped strip of sheet metal that isfolded to form a square face, a brace for holding the same, and wings which pass under the slate for supporting the brace.
In addition to these features, the square face is slit up for a short distance each side of the brace to form prongs,
' that spring against the surface of the slate,
and, in conjunction with the wings, clamp the slate, so that the guard will not slip from it. The object of the invention is to provide a snow-guard for roofs that may at any time be attached to the same, and that will eifectually prevent the snow from sliding bodily from the roof. 1
In carrying out my invention I take an L- I shaped strip of metal, cut at right angles, havin g a suitable Width, and arms of equal length, and, by aid of suitable to ols,I bend it on a line formed by the continuation of the line of the inner edges of the arms of the strip, so as to form a square surface, A. I then fold down the arms of the sheet-metal strip to a diagonal line, a b, and from this point backward on a line at right angles to thei'ace of the square A, and in contact with each other, forming the brace B. I then spread the ends out, forming the Wings O, the plane of which is at right angles to that of the brace, and also the square A. The square A is slit upward for a short distance from its lower corner at each side of the brace B, forming prongs c, which, in conjunction with the wings O, clamp the I slate as the guard is placed in its position on the roof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 611t As an improved article of manufacture, a snow-guard for roofs, consisting ofan L- shaped strip of sheet metal, having two equal arms. the same being bent to form the square A, brace B, wings O, and slit to form prongs c, all as herein shown and described.
