My invention relates to boilers, and more particularly to boilers of the water tube type, and consists first in the arrangement of plural drums and connecting tubes with respect to each other in such manner that the entire combination may be compactly assembled within the confines of a supporting frame of suficiently small size so that the boiler assembled as a unit may be shipped as such and readily installed.
In the present type of water tube boiler, the chief disadvantage of their use in small plants is the cumbersomeness of their construction, necessitating their being erected piece-meal in the place where they are to be used. It is the purpose of my invention to provide a water tube boiler construction which will be sufficiently compact so that the entire unit, with the exception of the supporting legs, may be assembled at the factory and shipped in such assembled state to the point of erection. A further purpose of my invention is to provide a water tube boiler construction of suflicient compactness so that such boiler when assembled can be taken into buildings having relatively small doors or openings, and a further purpose of my invention is to provide in connection with a water tube boiler of the special construction referred to, separable legs of predetermined height designed to supportthe boiler in proper relation to its setting after installation.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention, then, consists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. The annexed drawing and the following description set forth in detail certain structure embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting however, but one of various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.

more especially to Fig. 1, drums l, 2 and 3 are of the type usually employed in water tube boilers, drums 1 and 2 being connected by a system of parallel tubes l, drums 2 and 3 being connected by a system of parallel tubes ed water or steam. Drum 1 is supported at its respective ends by suitable metal members 9 and 10, members 9 resting upon crossbeams 11 are only of the length which appears in Fig. 1, two such crossbeams being framed into the column members 12 and 13, located at the front and rear, respectively. Drum 2 is likewise supported by members 14 similar to members 10 resting upon cross-beam 11. Drum 3 is supported from the upper drums 1 and 2 by means of the tube banks 5 and 6. A lower cross beam 15 is provided with its base plane below the lower surface of the drum 3 so that the boiler may be handled as a unit on skids and the like without damage to any of its parts. Rigidity of the upper and 1 lower frames is secured by brace 16.
The front of the boiler frame is closed by a metal plate 17 provided with doors 17a which permit access to the boiler and firing chamber for such purpose as may be neces sary. The front and rear ends of the two cross-beams 15 may be suitably connected by means of the transverse angle beams 20 and 21.
The entire unit so assembled is designed to be supported by legs 18, said legs varying in length according to the particular circumstances or needs surrounding the installation of the boiler. These legs will usually be four in number, one at each corner, although more may be employed if desired. Furthermore, they are detachable from the main body of the framework to be so detached during shipment.
The boiler, as hereinbefore described, is assembled in its supporting frame at the factory and shipped as a unit to the point of installation. There the legs of the proper length are connected to the framework and so supported that the entire unit is encased by suitable insulating means 19, such as firebrick, such insulating means, however, not being a part of this invention.
Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed instead of the one explained, change being made as regards the structure herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalent of such stated means be employed.
I therefore particularly point out and dis tinctly claim as my invention:
1. In a water tube boiler and frame sup port assembled unit, the combination of a lower frame, the latter including a pair of longitudinally extending base beams, an upper frame including side beams supported on said lower frame, a water and steam drum supported on said upper frame adjacent the rear end thereof, a water drum supported on said upper frame adjacent the front end thereof, said drums connected by steam and water conduits, and a mud drum connected to said first-named drums by means of conduits and supported thereby, said mud drum positioned above the base plane of said lower frame.
2. In a water tube boiler and frame support assembled unit, the combination of a lower frame, the latter including a pair of longitudinally extending base beams, an upper frame including side beams supported on said lower frame, a water and steam drum supported on said upper frame adjacent the rear end thereof, a water drum supported on said upper frame adjacent the front end thereof with its horizontal axis in a plane lower than the axis of said first-named drum, said drums connected by steam and water conduits, and a mud drum connected to said first-named drums by means of conduits and supported thereby, said mud drum positioned above the base plane of said lower frame.
