Abstract
1,227,801. Steam generators. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. 14 June, 1968 [14 June, 1967], No. 28593/68. Heading F4A. In a forced-flow, once-through steam generator in which horizontal tubes, or tubes inclined by a small angle to the horizontal, are connected together by welding to form a pressure-proof wall surrounding a combustion chamber, there being a stiffening frame structure surrounding the wall and serving to brace it, the stiffening frame structure, or some of it, is used as a counterweight for at least partly relieving the weight loading the wall. Horizontal or nearly horizontal tubes 1 are welded together, either directly or through fins or, as shown, through interposed sheet-metal strips, to form a pressureproof wall surrounding a square combustion chamber. The wall is surrounded by an alloy of vertical bracing members 2 suspended at their tops from the generator framework. The wall is fixed to the members 2 at, say, two-thirds from the bottom and is slidably connected to the members at other places, e.g. at 8, to allow for relative expansion. The alloy of members 2 is surrounded by a stiffening frame structure comprising horizontal members 15 interconnected by vertical members 19. The weight loading of the wall is at least partially relieved by anumber of vertically spaced levers 10, each fulcrumed at 17 on a bracket 18 welded to a member 2 and pivotally connected at 11 to the wall and at 13 to a tie-bar 14 which is pivotally connected at 21 to a vertical member 19. The tie-bars 14 are evenly tensioned by turnbuckles. Vertical rods 26 welded through horizontal members 22, 23 to the members 15 co-operate with horizontal rods 25 welded to plates 24 welded to the members 2 to permit horizontal and vertical relative movement.
