My invention relates to Vthe art ofcross cut sawing generally in the cutting of logs or sticks of wood into "desired lengths, and it consists mainlyin a woodsmans implement for guiding and for supporting a saw in its operative reciprocatorycutting motion across a log, for instance.

The free endjof the arm 1'0 is provided with a oo-aXial bearing pin '17 upon which` is pivotally secured a vguide drum 18whose periphery is provided with an annular groove or series of grooves 19 in one of which the back of a savv 20 runs. The resiliency of the arm 10, aided by that of the spring support 15, serves to press the saw, Working in one oi" the grooves 19, With operative cutting etect, against .the stock which it is designed to cut.
Upon the end of the post l, opposite that end which carries the head 5, is provided aV reduced end 21 vthatnonstitutes a coaxial* extension of the post and aordsmeans for turning the collar 8 When itis slipped' uponY the end 21 of the post, as it may be at will. The end 21 is preferably cylindrical in shape and carries'a nut 22 that is threaded to the outer extremity of the reduced Vend 2l, and which serves to prevent accidental separation of collar 8 from the post. v
A set screw 23, operable as by a handle 24, is preferably provided for securelyV lixing, `by itsfimpingement against veither of the strips 2` the collar 8 in any position in relation to the groove 4 for engagement with `which the edge 16 of the support 15 may be adjusted.
` The operationy of my device will, it is believed, be understood by one skilled in the ther description.

Aj saw guide which consists of the combination With a supporting post and art, in view of the foregoing, Without furmeans for. anchoring it atone end to the stock to be out, of a collar adjustable upon the post, a resilient 'arm pivotally ysecured to the collar, and means for effecting graduated adjustment'of the collar on the post.
2. Ina drag saw guide the combination with a post and a sliding collar thereon, of a resilient arm pivotally carried on the collar. a spring supporton thecollar having a sharp edge'adapted to engage any one ot a series of transverse grooves'provided on the post.
3. In a drag sawguide the combination with a post and a sliding collar thereon, of a resilient arm pivotally carried on the col- A lar, a spring support on the collarhaving a sharp edge adapted to engage any one of a.-r seriesv of transverseA grooves provided on the post, and means for securely iixing the collar to the post in any position to which the collar maybe adjuste 4. In a drag saw guide the combination with a post and a'sliding collar thereon, of a resilient arm pivotally carried on thecollar, a spring support onthecollar having a sharp edge adapted to engage anyone ofj-a series of transverse grooves provided Von the post, means for securely iiXing the collar to the post in any position to Which the collar may be adjusted, and a crosshead on lthe post adapted to be driven into a log for anchoring theV post thereto.
With a transversel vrooved ost means for anchoring it to a log, and a sliding collar on ythe post, of a resilient arm, a foot therefor pivoted tothe collar, a heel on the post constituting a positive supportv for the arm, a spring having an edge adapted to engage the individual grooves of the post for the purposeof adjustment, and means for tixing the collar on the post inV any position to which it maybe adjusted thereon.
