IMPROVEMENT IN STILTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I90,134, dated May 1, 1877; application filed November 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern r i Be it known that I, JOHN S.'EBERT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stilts, consisting of the manner in which the foot-rest and staff-clamp are interlocked and attached to the staff, and made adjustable to any desired position on the staff, all of which are clearly set forth in the following specification, including the accompanying drawings, with letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 represents a side view. Fig. 2 is a top view.
Like letters refer to like parts in each figure.
a is the metallic foot-rest, with two lateral projections, old, at the heel. These projections are made to interlock within the inner angle of the three-sided triangular metallic clamp b, which surrounds the staff 0 only on three sides, the foot rest a embracing the fourth side. When the projections d d are interlocked with b they form a loose hinge -joint, slightly eccentric in motion, so that when the foot-rest is thrown up in a line parallel with the staff, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. l, the
stafl may then be slid into the clamp loosely,
and when the foot-rest is pressed down at right angles to the staff, as shown in same figure, the foot-rest a and clamp b become fastened to the staff at any desired height by reason of the eccentricity of motion of the foot-rest, as shown by dotted lines 0 and f, Fig. 1. V
The clamp b may be made of wire with same results. I
This device may be used with great advantage'in the support of shelving in various sitnations.
In a stilt, the foot-rest a, eccentrically pivoted to the three-sided clamp-piece c by means of the projections d d, and adapted to form with the stafl' areadily-adjustable clamp, substantially as set forth.
' JOHN S. EBERT.
