FITTED- TRAVELING BAG Application filed December 16, 1930. Serial No. $2,632;
extending over the base or bottom of the bag,
the connection with the end members ending at or above their longitudinal centre,-
the said piece however, at each side of the bag, extending upwardly to a point where it may be engaged by one or more straps having means such as snap'fasteners to hold the piece in position so as to close the compart-ment which it faces. At each side of the bag, said piece when detached fromits fastener may be dropped downward to ex pose the compartment. One of the pieces at its normally free section and on its inner face supports a mirror. Toilet or other articles such as a ticket or card case or purse may be supported in pockets or loops carried by the division wall, or one of the compart ments may serve to enclose a folder having loops for carrying bottles and jars contain' ing cosmetics as shown in the accompanying drawings.
The invention will be described with ref erence to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of a bag embodying the invention showing. one facethereof, the
to expose apartment. 1 Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the reverse side of the showing the cover at that side dropped downward to expose the adja' cent compar ment carrying pockets for the reception of a small case and a purse, the

is a side elevation of "the bag in closed position. L
Fig. i is a transverse sectional view on the line M, Fig. 1.
F ig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing cover being partly broken away folder within the ad acent compiece as cover 9.
the fastener device raised and the cover members partially outward.
Fig.6 is a fragmentary horizontal section on'the line 6.6, Fig. 1.-
Fig. 7 is a view of the toilet case open position one flap thereof being partly broken away.
Referring to the drawings, itwill be seen that the case comprises a stiifened curved top 1 to whichis'suspended as by stitching the member or members, in this case two, forming a division wall. Thedivision wall members indicated 2111.2. and 8 are stitched to the top member each near an'onte'r margin of the latter and are then brought together and each is stitched at 4: to a lining memberi5.
To the top curved member 1 ateach'end I thereof is secured an end member 6. Covermg the base of the bag between two end members 1s a plece whlch has an extension at each face of the bagand which serves as a cover member for that face to enclose the. space between the division wall A formed by members 2 and 3. The said piece is generally indicated at B; at each face of the bag it is stitched tothe opposite end member 6 fora portion of the length of the latter. It then extends upwardly to approximately a margin of 'top member 1. Between the stitches and the top memberrl the piece is 8.0
free so that it may be folded back to'expose the compartment bounded by the division wall A. I I will-hereinafter term one free'piece as cover 8 and the opposite free Cover 8 has secured thereto a mirror 10.; The member 8 is adapted to be secured in position by a balland socket device. In this embodiment the socket member 11 iscarried by strap 12 secured to the top piece of the bag and'the ball'member 13 is :carriedby the cover-member. In the drawings I have indicated that "two-of said securing means are employed one near each end of the bag.
Cover member 9'likewise has'ball and socket 7 connection with one or'more, straps a.
' The division wall facing covermember 8. may carry a loop or pocket 14 to receive a purse 15] and a secondloop-for pocket '16 to receive a; small case 17,; On theopposite .100
side of the division wall the compartment facing cover member 9 may be utilized to receive a folder for toilet articles. In this embodiment the folder comprises a relatively stiff has 18 having a plurality of loops 19 each of which is adapted to hold in position a bottle or jar or other container for cosmetic or toilet accessories. ihe base member may be closed by the flaps 20.
Each of the end pieces may be provided with loops 21 to receive the end of the strap 22 the central portion of the strap forming a handle 22:0 by means of which the bag may be carried. 1
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows z- V i 1. A traveling and motor bag comprising a stiffened top member, a vertical division wall secured to and suspended by said top 'member, end members secured to the top member, a base closing member secured to veach end member at the base thereof and thence extending upwardly opposite each face of the division wall and continuing until each of the opposite ends of said base covering member lies adjacent one marginal edge of the top member to form a cover section for a compartment inwardly bounded by said division wall, and bounded at the top by the overhanging top member and bounded at the bottom by said base closing member, an upper portion of the cover section at each side of the bag being unattached to the end members so that the unattached portion'ma T be folded down to expose the said compartment, and means for removably securing each of said unattached portions to the top member. I
2. A traveling and motor bag comprising a stiffened top member, a vertical division wall secured to and suspended by said top member, end members secured to the top member, flexible cover for each side of the bag each cover being secured to the opposed end members along the lower portion of each side edge of the cover and thence extending unattached until its upper end lies adjacent one marginal edge of the top'member, so that the unattached portion of the cover may be folded down to expose a compartment bounded by the endmembers, the overhanging portion of the top member and the cover, and means for removably securing each of the covers to the top member comprising straps securedrto the top'member and interlocking fastening devices carried end members secured to the top member, a flexible cover for each side of the bag each cover being secured to the opposed end mem bers along the lower portion of each side edge -of the cover and thence extending unattached until its upper end lies adjacent one marginal edge of the top member, so that the unattached portion of the cover may be folded down to expose a compartment, means for removably securing each of the covers to the top member, andpockets oarriedby the division wall.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
FLORENCE N. LEWIS.
straps and the covers whereby when the said interlocking members are detached, the por-. tion of each cover unattached to the end members may 1 drop down to expose the compartment. r
