r1`his invention relates to the art of law-n sprinklers, and, while adaptable for use inconnection with any known type of lawn sprinkler, has more particular reference to lawn sprinklers of the type wherein a plurality of sprinkler heads are interposed inv a length of hose, so as to increase the sprinkling area and obviate the necessity of frequently shifting a single sprinkler head to various positions on the lawn.
The main purpose or object of the present invention has been to provide a sprinkler head of very simple and economical construction, and which may obviate the use of a multiplicity of assembled parts and packings to prevent leakage. f
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawingv in which- Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the sprinkler head and its support.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical section viewed on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, with the tube section omitted.

Referring to the drawing, 1() designates as an entirety a horizontal tubular body of the sprinkler head, and 11 an integral nozzle on the lupper side of the body having a conoidal spray chamber 12l therein and formed with a discharge orifice 13 in its upper end. The body 10 and nozzle 11 may be, and preferably are, formed as a single casting. One end of the body member 10 is enlarged diametrically and internally threaded as shown at 14 to couple with the male member of a hose section, and the other end of the body member 10 is externally threaded as shown at 15 to couple with the female member of another hose section.

of the surface of the bore; and in the casting operation there are formed in opposite sides of the bore 'longitudinal grooves'17 and 17 that are closed 'at one end and at their other ends open through ports 18 and 18 into'the lower portion of the spray chamber 12 substantially tangentially of the circular wall of the latter. By reference'to Figs. 3, 4 an'd,
itwill be seen that the gooves 17 and 17 are longitudinally voffset from each other' and extend in opposite directions from their closed to their ported ends'.
Within the finished or'machined portion of the bore of the body member 10 is driven with a tight fit a tubefsection or sleeve 19 of suiiicientlength to underlie and'form the inner endvwall or iioor of the spray chamber 12. This sleeve 19 is driven in until lit abuts the Vshoulder 16 as astop, and in this positionit covers the major, portion of the open sideof each of the grooves 17 and 17, leaving, however, -the closed end portion of each groove in free communication with the boreV of the body member, as clearly shown in Fig. 5.
By reason of this construction the water in thev body member flows freely through the ducts 17, 17 and their tangential ports 18, 18, into the spray chamber 12 where it re'- c'eives'alwhirling action and is discharged in the form of a whirling spray through the dis.- charge orifice 13. i y
The sprinkler head may be provided with a suitable support therefor such as the winged base plate 20, this latterbeing preferably of sheet metaland formed withl a raised central portion comprising aseat lor saddle20 (Fig. 2) that is aperturedto receive'integral lugs 21 cast on the lower side of the body member,
which lugs may be'rveted over tormly segrooves 1 7, 17 in directing the water from opposite ends of the body member tangentially into the spray chamber.
I claim as my invention:
l. A sprinkler head comprising a horizontal tubular body, a nozzle on the upper side of said body having a spray chamber therein, and a tube section snugly fitting the bore of the tubular body and forming the floor ofthe spray chamber, the sprinkler head having a port or ports opening into the lower portion of the spray chamber exteriorly of and partly defined by said tube sect-ion.
2. A sprinkler head comprising a tubular body provided on its side With a projecting Y nozzle having a conoidal spray chamber therein and a discharge orifice at its outer end, and a tube section having a driving fit 'in the bore of the tubular body and Jforming .the inner end Wall of the spray chamber, the sprinkler head having a port or ports open- Y ing tangentially into the lower portion of the spray chamber exteriorly of and partly delined by said tube section.
3. 'A sprinkler head comprising' a tubular body provided With grooves in the inner surfaces of its side Walls and a projecting nozzle on one side having a discharge orifice at its outer end and a spray chamber therein communicating With said grooves, and a tube section snugly fitting the bore of the tubular body, forming the inner end Wall ofthe spray chamber and coveringl portions of said grooves to form ducts leading from the bore of the tubular body and opening tangentially into the loWer portion of the spray chamber.
4.- A sprinkler head comprising a tubularv body, a nozzle on the side of said body having a spray chamber therein' and a discharge orifice at its outer end, said. body havingformed in opposite sides of its bore oppositely eXtending grooves closed at their inlet ends and ported at their outlet ends to said spray chamber, and a ktubular section in the bore of said body member partially covering the open sides of said grooves and forming with the latter flow ducts leading from said bore into saidspray chamber.
5. A sprinkler'head comprising a tubular body, an integral nozzle on the upper side of said body having a spray chamber therein and a discharge orifice at its upper end, said body having formed in opposite sides of its bore longitudinally offset oppositely eXtending'grooves closed at their inlet ends and tangentially ported attheir outlet ends to the lower end of said spray chamber, and a tubular section snugly tted in the bore of' said 'body member partially covering the open sides kof said grooves and forming with the latter flow duets leading from'said bore into said spray chamber.
