NEINI HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A. CORPORA- STORE-FRONT CON STRUCTION Application filed October 31, 1931. kScialvNo. 572,305.
This invention relates to improvement in store-front construction, and particularly to store-front construction where the sashes are to be mounted without backing-blocks. In such construction, it is necessary that at least one member be rigidly held in position, and the object of this invention is to provide means for holding one strip firmly in place but permitting the other member to be moved with relation thereto, so that a sheet of glass may be rmly clamped between them, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a store-front construction embodying our invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional View lon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the inner strip detached; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the anchoring-blocks detached.
In carrying out our invention, we employ an inner strip 10 formed from sheetor other extruded-metal and comprising a base 11, backplate 12, top 13, which latter is inwardly-bowed, forming a drip-trough 14 and a lip 15 turned downward parallel with the backplate. Connected with this inner member is an anchoring-block 16 having a base 17 formed with an opening 18 into which a collar 19 extends, this collar being struck up from the base 11 and firmly holding the anchoring-block in place and providing openings for screws 2O by which the inner strip is held in position. The outer end 21 of the base is raised to permit the base 22 of the outer strip 23 to pass beneath it. The block is also formed with a forwardly-projecting shelf 32 which forms a guard to prevent the edge of the glass from coming into contact with the screws 27 and in case the glass supports 29 commonly used should be displaced, the shelf will form a support for the glass and may be the only means for this purpose. This outer strip being of any approved de- 0 sign, has the edge of the upper end 25 turned downward forming a lip 24 parallel to the lip y The outermember is formed with an opening 26 for a screw 27 which extends into engagement with the anchoring-block 16.V
,A sheet of glass 28 is placed in position and rests upon suitable supporting-blocks 29 and is held in position by the lips 15 and 24, tension being applied to the outer member by'turning the screw 27 inward, which draws the outer member toward the inner member.
If desired, a casing-strip 3() may be employed, and if so, the inner end 31 may be turned upward and the lower end of the backplate 12 outwardly odset, s0 as to seat against it, this casing-strip being held in place by the screws 20.
We thus provide, in a very simple manner, a store-front construction including inner and outer strips but without backing-blocks to which the inner strips are usually secured and reinforced thereby.
It will be understood that while only one collar 19 is shown, that these collars are formed at intervals and at points where the anchoring-blocks are to be located.
IVe claim:
1. A store-front construction, comprising inner and outer strips, the inner strip having a base, an anchoring-block within the inner A strip and formed with a hole, the base of the inner strip formed at intervals with upward- Aly-eictending collars entering the holes in the anchoring-blocks and providing screw-holes for connecting the same with the casing, and a screw extending through said outer strip and into engagement with said anchoringblock.
2. A store-front construction, comprising an inner member having a base with its outer ico wardly-extending collars, an anchoring-block havin a hole permitting it to be set over one of sai collars, a front strip having a base plate extending beneath the outer edge of 5 the inner strip, a screw extending through the outer stri into engagement with said anchoring-bloc qnd a. cas1ngstrip upon which the members bear.
4. A store-front construction, com rising 10 inne! ald autel strips, the inner strip ving a Ilm, an anchoring-block within the inner strip and formed with a. hole and with a. forwardlprojecting shell, the base of the inner stri rmed at intervals with upwardly-ex- 15 ten ing collars entering the holes in the anchoring-blocks and providing Serewfhole for connecting the same with the casing, and a screw extending through said outer strip idckinto engagement with said anchoringd' In testimony whereof, we have signed this specification.
