This invention relates to comb cleaners and its general object is to provide a cleaner which is at all times carried by the comb for instant use thereon, yet does not in any way interfere with the proper use or combing qualities of the comb.
L further object of the invention is to provide a comb cleaner than can be associated with any type of comb without changing the b in any way, but the comb may be slightcliaiiged to accommodate the clamping ineans of the cleaner.
Another object of the invention is to provide a comb cleaner that is capable of removing foreign matter from a comb in an easy and expeditious manner, with the result the comb can be kept clean and sanitary with very little elfort.
A further object of the invention is to provide a comb cleaner of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely eicient in operation and service.
rlhis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated .in the accompanying drawing and specificalpointed out in the appended claims.
ln describing my invention in detail, referc -ce will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a. rear view illustrating' the application of my cleaner to a comb.
Figure 2 is a front view theieof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximatelv on line 3-3 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure l is sectional view taken approximately on line dus: of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure l with my cleaner at the end of its cleanin stroke.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that I have illustrated my cleaner associated with a comb which includes a body l having a groove 2 arranged longitu- Serial N'o. 602,581.
dinally therein, for the purpose of receiving the upper longitudinal edge of the relatively wide iange 3 of my cleaner, but I want it understood that my cleaner can be associated with combs of practically all types, without versely upon itself as clearly shown in Fig- 6 ures l and 5 of the drawing and is formed with a base .l'thatis coeiitensive with the iiange 3 and provided with a plurality of apertures 5 for the teeth 6 of the comb.
The basel is flat and while the relative wide flange 3 is formed with one longitudinal edge thereof, there is a relative narrow flange 7 formed with the opposite longitudinal edge thereof. The flange 7 is likewise slightly curved transversely upon itself so that its upper edge will be disposed in frictional engagement with the body l, as best shown lin li1 igure L I 5 The relative wide flange 3 is serrated as at 7 S to provide gripping surfaces as will be apparent. l
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it willbe obvious that I have provided a comb cleaner that is carried by the comb at all times for instant use, and when it is desired to clean the comb', the operator can grasp the comb and place the thumbs on the gripping surfaces 8, thence move the cleaner downwardly on the teeth, to a position as shown in Figure 5, with the result thaty all foreign matter will be moved from the comb. By providing the flanges 3 and 7 arranged as shown, it will be noted that foreign matter cannot accumulate about the teeth of the comb, between the body and cleaner, therefore all foreign matter must necessarily n be disposed outwardly of the cleaner so that it can be readily removed therefrom and the 9,5
comb lrept in a sanitary condition at all times.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
l desire it to be understood that I may malte changes in the construction and in the purpose'of receiving the 65 combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
5 1. A comb cleaner comprising a base of a length to engage the inner surface of the end teeth of a comb and being provided with a plurality of apertures to snugly and slidably receive the remaining teeth, a relatively Wide flange secured to one longitudinal edge of the base and being curved transversely upon itself to dispose its longitudinal free edge in frictional engagement with the body of the comb, a relatively narrow flange formed with the opposite longitudinal edge of the base and being curved transversely to dispose its longitudinal free edge in frictional engagement with the body for cooperation with the relatively wide flange to secure the cleaner to the body, and said flanges being co-extensive with the length of the base to terminate inwardly of the ends of the body.
2. The combination with a comb having a longitudinally arranged groove formed in the body thereof, said groove being inclined toward the teeth of the comb, of a cleaner comprising a base of a length to engage the inner surface of the end teeth of a comb and having a plurality of apertures adapted to snugly and slidably receive the remaining teeth, a relatively wide flange formed with the base and being curved transversely upon itself for disposing the longitudinal free edge thereof within the groove, a relatively narrow flange formed with the base and having its longitudinal free edge engageable with the body for cooperation with the wide flange for securing the cleaner to the body, said flanges being co-extensive with the length of the base to terminate inwardly of the ends of the body and serrated gripping surfaces arranged on the relative wide flange.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
