Description
Feb. 14, 1933. E. G. SCHAEFFER JOINT Filed March 11, 1932 INVENTOR Kal vanity. As cfixeffer v a- ATTORNEYS Patented Feb. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EDWARD G. BGHAEI'FEB, 01 BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN GEAR- .ACTEB DOLL 00., INC NEW YORK, N. Y, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK JOINT Application filed Iaroh 11, 1932. Serial No. 598,241.
This invention relates to a oint or articulation between two main parts or members of a doll to join said parts or members and also allowing a certain movement thereof.
An object of the invention is the provision of a simple, ine ensive and eflicient joint or articuie tion 0 such character that the parts or members, constructed preferably of soft rubber.
rubber, maybe joined or connected together for relative movement. I r
The nature of the invention and its dis tingiiishing features and advantages will ap r when the following specification is read mconnection with the accompanying drawin in which %igure 1 is a front view of a doll, shown partly in elevation and partly in section, em-
odying the features of the invention;
Figure 2 is a view of a portion of one of the parts or members of the doll detached.
- Referring LJW more particularly to the drawing, it will be apparent that there has been shown a doll consisting of separate main parts consisting of a hollow body 10, a hollow ead 11, arms 12, and legs 13. All of these parts in the resent instance are made of he head, arms and legs are 'oined to the body 10 for relative movement y substantially similar means. The said means joining the head 11 with the body 10 consists of an inwardly directed, substantiall annular section 14 in the neck opening. The body 10 has a neck section 15 which conforms to and fits in the annular section 14. A button 16 is secured to the neck section 15, and this is accomplished by the provision v of a shank 17 on the button which is cemented or otherwise secured in the neck section 15.
It is to be understood that the button 16 Each of the arms 12 and legs 13 is joined to the body 10 by means which is substantially similar to that described above. Each arm 12 and leg 13 has a button 18 and shank l9 integral therewith, the latter being disposed between the main section of the arm or leg, as the case may be, and the button 18. The ody 10 has a. hole or opening 20 for each arm and leg. That portion of the body surrounding the hole or opening 20, and the button 18 of the arm or leg relating thereto may be deformed sufiiciently to pass the button through the hole or opening 20 to dispose the button 18 on the inside of the body 10 in engagement therewith. It will be apparent that; the wall of the body 10 will be disposed between the button 18 and the main section of the arm or leg, as the case may be. In this manner each arm or leg will be joined or be articulated with the body 10 and will be movable in relation thereto. It is to be understood that, instead of forming the button 18 and shank 19 integral with each arm 12 or leg 13, the shank 19 may be integral with the button 18 and also be of such length as to be secured or cemented in a socket in the main section of the arm or leg, as exemplified by the securement of-the button 16 joining the head 11 with the bod 10.
It is to be understood that the ody 10 and the head 11 and its neck section 14 need not be made of rubber, and that it may be made of suitable rigid material used for the construction of doll parts, since the buttons bein made of resilient material may be deformerfi which is all that is re uired, to engage the buttons to join or articu ate the parts.
I claim;
1. A joint between two main parts of a doll, one of said parts having an inwardly directed substantially annular section open ing into the interior of said part, and said part also being hollow, and the other part having a section conforming to and fitting in said annular section and an annular flan on said second section disposed within said hollow part and having its marginal portion in engagement with said annular section, said annu ar flange being made of rubber in order to be temporarily deformed sufliciently to be 2 nae-1,014
passed through the annular section and enas aforesaid, to join said parts. 2. The invention defined in claim 1 in which the annular section is made of rubber. I 3. The invention defined in claim 1, in which the annular flange is carried by a shank secured to said section fitting in said amnular section.
4. A joint between two main parts of a 1 doll, one of said parts having an inwardly directed substantially annular section opening into the interior of said art and said also being hollow, and t e other part vinfi a section conforming to and fitting in mi annular section and an annular flange on said second section dis osed within said hollow part, and having a epending annular rim in engagement wi said annular section, said annular flange being made of rubber in 0 order to be temporaril eformed suflicientl to be ggiiswd ghrougldi e annular section an enga asaoresai tojo sai arts.
