This invention relates to a new and improved loose leaf binder.

The main object of my invention is tol provide a loose leaf binder which has a metal back and which is of such a design thatit can be made and assembled quickly and cheaply.

Other objects and advantages relate to the size, shape and arrangement of parts, all as will more fully appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, partially broken away and partially in section, of a binder embodying my invention.

Figure 7 is adetail transverse section taken through one edge of the back members, illustrating the hinged connection of the spacing strips shown in Figures 5 and 6.

My improved binder comprises opposed housings 1 and 2, opposed covers 3 and 4, a main back plate 5, and a supplementary back plate 6.

Housing l, cover 3 and one longitudinal edge of back plate 5 are provided with tubular extensions which encircle a rod 7 The tubular extensions on the three members just mentioned are in staggered relation to form a piano hinge.

Similarly, housing 2, cover 4 and the opposite longitudinal edge of back plate 5 have tubular extensions which encircle a rod 8 to form a piano hinge.

Back plate 6 has secured, as by riveting, thereto in spaced relation adjacent one end thereof, a pair of upwardly extending posts 9 and 10. Posts 9 and 10 are internallyv threaded.

Member 22 has .a plurality of spaced tubular portions incorporated into thel piano hinge by which housing 1, covering 3 and back plate 5 are secured together.

A similar member 23 is provided on the opposite edge of back plate 6 and carries tubular portions which are incorporated into the piano hinge by which housing 2, cover 4 and back plate 5, are secured together.

For the purposeof rigidity and in order that the structure may resist the shocks to which it issubjected in use, I prefer tofmake back plates 5'and-k 6 of metal although other y materials may be employed. A Y Y Y o,
