IMPROVEMENT IN SWINGING GATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 189,644, dated April 17, 1877 application filed December 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. OHAVER, of Monmouth, in the county of Warren and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Gate, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved gate, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
Myinvention relates to an improved gate, that is readily swung into open or closed position, and retained securely in either position, being of strong, cheap, and durable construction.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents a gate, that is hung in such a manner to a post, B, that it is of considerable greater length at one side than at the other. To the shorter end section of the gate is attached a balancing-block, G,
the latter is slightly heavierthan the block and shorter section, for bearing by its outer sliding latch, c, with handle f, which serves to withdraw the latch and lift the gate for being swung in either direction.
The gate is constructed of common fenceboards, bolts, and nails, and forms thus a cheap and conveniently-operated gate for farm and other purposes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with gate A, of the perforated metallic plate a, guide-frame d d, and post B, having the top pin b, as shown and described.
