TUBIN,
ITALY Application fled December 11, 1880, Serial No. 501,715, and in Italy October 81, 1930.
This invention relates to a door arrange ment more particularly for aircraft which permits the normal opening of the door from either side and, in emergency cases when a prompt and easy opening of the door 1s required for the exit of the driver and passengers, the removal of all the hinge 1pins from their sockets so that the door is 111 y set free and can be thrown to the outside.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a construction 0 the device according to this invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the-device when the door is in its normal closed position.
Figure 2 is a similar view with the hmges disassembled only on the left side for permitting the normal opening of the door on the hinges of the right side (not shown for simplicitys sake).
Figure 3 is plan view on a larger scale showing the central operating mechanism and the safety devices.
18 and 1d denote the hinge pins on the left side and right side of the door, res ectively, and 2s and 2d are the hinge-pin soc ets which form together with the pins the hinges or joints on which the door is hung.
S1nce the actuating members for the pins 18 and 1d are identical and symmetrically disposed with respect to the central axis, only the left part of the device will be described.- The actuating means of the pins 'of the right side will be designated by the same reference numerals as the corresponding means of the left side with the addition of a prime to said numerals.
The hinge pins 18 are connected together by a rod 3. The rod 3 carries a pin 4 engagin the forked end of the arm 5 of the bell-cran lever 5-7 fulcrumed at 6, and the other arm 7 of which is provided with a slot engaging rod 9 ends in a fork 11 slotted for receiving the pin 13 of the roller 12 which is thus capable of an axial displacement by the extent allowed by the slot. The rods 9 and 9' are arranged parallel to each other.
A spiral spring 14 acting on the ring 15 secured to the rod 9 tends to move said rod until the ring 15 rests against the corresponding guide 10, a bell-crank lever is fulcrumed at the fixedpoint 16, and has an arm 17 engaged by the pin 13 of the roller 12, while the other arm 18 ends in a hook 19 which, in its normal position, abuts the projection 20 of the rod 9.
A spring 21 holds the hook 19 engaged with the projection 20. A cam or lever 22 is rotatably mounted on a pin 23 and can be acted upon by means of a suitable hand lever (not shown).
The lever 22 is adapted to lift the hinge pins 18 for the normal opening of the door on its left side, while the lever 22 is ada ted to act on the hinge-pins 1d and to lift t ese latter for the normal opening. of the door from its right side. In emergency cases, by acting upon both hand levers both levers 22 and 22' shall be displaced setting the door free on both sides.
a The bell-crank lever 17-18 serves as a safetygtop against undesired displacement of the r0 9. 1
When the lever 22 is acted upon and the lever 22' is left stationary, as shown in Fig. 2, the roller 12 is first displaced, the in 13 whereof slides in the elongated slot on t e rod 9 (which remains stationary) while the bellcrank lever 17, 18 is swung out of the projection 20, so that the further movement of the lever 22 causes the rod 9 to slide and releases the hinge pins 18 on the left side, while the hinges on the right side remain in place and serve to support the door. When it is desired to disassemble the hinges on both sides, the levers 22 and 22 are operated as previously described and the hinge pins 1d and 18 will be withdrawn from their sockets.
What I claim is:
1. A combined hinge and latch device for doors, comprising, in combination with hinge sockets adapted to be fixed to the two frame ledge portions of a doorand with-rods adapted to be mounted axially displaceable on the sides of a door and carrying the hinge pins, an actuating device for said rods consisting of a push rod for each of said hinge pin carrying rods, a bell-crank lever for connecting each push rod with its respective hinge pin 2 aaoaaos carrying rod levers o erated by hand for actuating said push r and means for locking said rods in position for holding said hinges assembled, said means being re eased 5 automatically through the operation of said hand-operated levers.
2. A combined hinge and latch device for doors, comprising, in combination with hinge sockets adapted to be fixed to the two frame ledge ortions of a door and with rods adapted to he mounted axially displaceable on the sides of a door and carryin the hinge pins, an actuating device for sai hinge pin, carrying rods consisting of a push rod for each hinge pin carrying rod, a bell-crank lever for connecting each push rod with its res ctive hinge in carrying rod, oscillatin ock members w ich normally lock the pus rods in position for holding said hinges assem- 20 bled, pin and slot connections of said oscillating member and of said push rods and hand-controlled cams acting on said push rods through said oscillating lock member, so as to release first said push rods from said lock 25 medmbers, and thereupon to displace said push ro s.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have si ed my name.
CELESTI O ROSATELLI.
