Another object is to provide a machine of this kind, embodying a supporting 'seat in which the lock cylinder into which an uncut blank has been inserted, is clamp'ed, a blank carrier adapted to Swing towardand away from a cutting wheel, the blank carrier hav'- ,ing a finger or fingers to engage the outer periphery of the cylinder, a stop whereby a key blank in the blank carrier will just touch the cutting edge of the cutting wheel when said finger'rests against the cylinder, and a means for moving the blank carrier forward toward the cutting, wheel'untilthe finger rests on the end ofone of the protruding tumblers, whereby the key blank may be swnng forward against the cutting wheel and cut to a depth or distance equalto the protrusion of the tumbler from the cylinder. i

The operation is repeate d until the last tumbler pin is reached, after which "the outs are rounded ofi' and the blank 'E removed and 'is now a, completed key' to fit the cylinder A; The cuts proceed in regular `order\ along the length of the key blank E in the proper position and spacingbecause of the opposite positioning of the 'key blanks C and E as aforesaid and as will bereadily apparent' in 'Figuret 3.` The operations necessary in cutting and completing a key are 'simple,` rapid and easily performed. i
Referring' to the embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 5 to 9, the base Qa has hearing ends la through the upper parts of which is journaled the shaft 4a carrying the cutting wheel 5a. Ashaft 7a is ournaled and, in this case, also .slidably mounted through a bearing Sa-'in one end la and acrossthe base Qa. A hearing sleeve. 55 is journaled on the other end of the. shaft 7 a and is locked against aXial movement thereon by collars 56 secured by set screws 57 to the shaft at each end of the collar. This sleeve 55 is slidably and rotatably' mounted in a hearing block 58 on the base Qa and the shaft 7a is thus slidably supported at each end below 'and to one side of the shaft 4a. The
'hearing block 58 has a recess 59 communicatv ing with the bore 60 through whichthe sleeve 55 extends and a clamping dog 61 is slid ably mounted in this recess and may be pressed against the' sleeve to lock the shaft 7a against aXial movement by means of a locking screw 62 threaded through a hole 63 communicating with the recess 59 as shown, the said screw 62 having a wing 64 for its convenient adjustment The sha-ft 7a may, of course, rotate freely in the sleeve 55 at" any longitudinal adjustment.

In a key cutting machine, a rotatable cutting wheel, a lock cylinder seat, a hinged I blank carrier arm adaptedfor movement between the lock cylinder seat and the 'cntting wheel, a clamp on the blank carrier arm adapted to receive a. key blank for cuttingby the cutting wheel, and means 'on the blank carrier arm cooperating with' a lock cylinder in the lock cylinder seat to regulate the depth and position of outs made in the key blank.
