Description

Jan. 31, '1933. R. HAGEBUSCH BOTTLE CLOSURE WITH MEANS F01 REMOVING THE PAPER SEALS Original Filed April 10, 1951 %E'NOR. g I y Emm ATTORNEY.
Patented Jan. 31 1933 UNITED STATES ROBERT HAGEBUSCH, F BROOKLYN. NEW YORK Continuation of application Serial No. 529,200, filed April 10, 1931.,
1931. Serial 'nmsesaea The object of this invention is to provide an improved construction of such utensil which will form a combined durable sanitary tight closure for a milk bottle or the like and a dispenser for the contents thereof.
A still further object is to so construct said dispenser that it can be easily accessible on the inside for cleansing.
With these and other objects in View my invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and defined in the appended claims.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a vertical section of my device shown as applied to a conventional milk bottle;
Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a similar section to Fig. 1 of a modified construction thereof.
In the drawing B denotes the container which in present example is in form of a conventional milk bottle having the usual paper seal S.
The device consists of a hollow body 10 which is open on top and bottom and preferably may have the shape of an inverted frustrated cone or a cylinder so that it may be conveniently accessible for cleaning pur- 1 poses. At its open top this body is formed with a marginal spout 10 and is adapted to be closed by a movable lid 11, which is slightly larger in diameter than that of the top of body 10. The circumferential edge 11 of said lid may be bent or curved downwardly so as to embrace the upper edge of the body as well as the spout 10 in closed position. lhe inner face of said edge 11 may have attached to it a suitable packing or tightening ring 12 of rubber, cork or other suitable ma-' This application filed September terial or other sealing means. Provided at the upper en'd of the body diametrically opposite the spout l0 and suitably fixed to the outer part of said body are cars 13 orthe m like to which the cap or lid 11 is suitably pivoted or hinged as at 14. A spring15 1s provided to continuously urgejsaidlid into closing position. i Adjacent the pivotal point the lid isformed with or has attached to ita downwardly projecting suitably curved arm 16 adapted tOGXlJGIld below thelower edge of the body 10 so that when the dispenser is fitted inthe neck of the bottle the lid can be 7 opened most conveniently by the palmof'the M hand of the user, as is shown in Fig. 1,"whfle,
the fingers of the same handgrasp the neck of the bottle. Thus the manipulation of the lid'does not necessitate theuse of bothhan ols' f of the user.
17 denotes apiercing pinor member for removing the paper cover S generally used. as an original seal in milk'bottle's. This piercing pin'is in the form ofa fishing hook and is provided with an arm'17 projecting from; a point intermediate its ends. The forward end of said arm 17 is fixed to a wire orpin l8 rotatively borne in the walls 'of' the body 10 and extendingtransversely through .the latter: adjacent the lower edge thereof, 5 The rear end'l'f of said'hooked member 17 is pivotally connected to one end of a wire 19 whose other end is pivoted to the innerface of the lid, as at 19. When the lid is. in closed position the hook isso positioned" that its pointed or piercing. end 17 is slightly projecting below the lower edge of they body. When the lid is tilted intoopen position the piercing pin will swing'in the arc, of alc'ir cle' around the axis of the wire 18 as its center and pierce the paper seal S of the bottle B, so that when said dispensing body. 10' is lifted from'the bottlethe paper sear picked upby the hook 17 will also be removed.
1 The conical body is provided with 'a' plu rality of circumferential annular beads or ribs 10 and its lower edge is slightly flaring to. form a flange or stop 10 Tightly but displaceably mounted a'roundthe lower outer part of the body is a washer 20 of rubber, cork or other suitable material which mo is of conical cross section and is formed at its upper edge with an outwardly projecting downwardly curved flange'20. H The conical portion ofsaid'washer when 5 the device is applied to the bottle B asshown I in the drawing is adapted to be passed into the mouth of the" neck and tightly hold the device in position of, use, while the flange V is adapted to engage around the upper 10 beaded edge B of the neck portion of the bottle and serve as a hood preventing the i spilling of the contents,.while the dispenser is passed into the neck for the removal of these'al Sand to serve as a seal after the device is restored on the bottle to serve as a dispenser. f g
In the modificationshown in Fig. 3, the pi'ercing member 21 is in form of a short arrow shaped, pointed piece of'wire' having 9; inclined barbs 21 projecting laterally and upwardly above the pointed end thereof." The upper end of said element 21 is fixed to acrossrod or wire 22 fixed in the lower part of the inner face ofv the conical body 7 2, 10. The pointed barbed end ofsaid member 2lis adapted to project below the lower edge of the body, so that when saidbody l0 is positioned into the neck of the bottle its piercer will pierce the paper seal and with 3 its barbs 21' pick up the latter when the body is removed from the bottle. I
Since various other modifications may be made inmy device without departing from the principle of my invention I do not wish 5; to restrict myself to the details shown and described.
What'I claim is I 1. A removable bottle closure, comprising a hollow body having a movable lid, a piercing member pivotally mounted at the bottom. of said bodv so as to swing in the arc of a circle and operatively connected to the lid, so that when said lid is opened while the device-is in the neck of a bottle thepaper seal thereof will be pierced and picked up when said device is removed. r 2. In a device as per claim 1, in which the piercer is in form ofa barbed wire fixed in said body and adapted to project downwardly below the lower edge of said body.
3. A device for milk bottles or the like, consisting of a hollow body capable of engaging the mouth portion of the bottle, a movable lid. on said body, and a piercer pivoted in said hollow body and operatively con nected to said movable lid so that, when said device is applied to thebottle and said mov able lid is opened, said piercer will pierce the paper seal of said bottle and withdraw it from the latter when the device is removed.
Intestimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
