This invention relates to a device for supporting battles between vertically disposed tubes and by means of the tubes, so as to prevent the saine from slipping longitudinally of the tubes. rlhe invention will be understood from the description in connection with m the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a boiler illustrating an application of the invention.
F ig. 2 is a fragmentary elevation ot a tube showing a preferred form for supporting the baile thereon.
Fig. 3 is a View taken at right angles to Fig. 2, but with the balile removed.
Figs. 4 and 5 are views taken on the lines 7-7 and 8-8 respectively, of Fig. 3.
In Fig. 1 is indicated a boiler of the Stirling type in which the mud drum is shown at 8, and the upper steam andwater drums at 9, 10 and 11, the drums being connected by banks of tubes, as shown at 12, 13 and 14, and battles are provided in the usual way. rl'he two baffles 15 and 1G, as shown in this figure. need to be supported to prevent the same lfrom slipping downwardly, and supports made in accordance with my invention are shown ytherefor at 17.
The baille support shown in Figs. 2 to 5 comprises a. clamp 23 of U-shape, engaging a tube 13 and having a bolt 24 passing through the ends of the clamp which, in this illustration, is shown as a strap. ldetween the bolt and the tube is disposed a wedge 25 having a recess in one face to iit the tube, thereby providing extended thermal contact. A. suitable thimble 26 may be placed around the bolt it desired.
Resting on the wedge 25 is a bearing member 27, here shown as an angle bar adapted to support the baille 15. lf desired, the bearing member may be independently held against the tube by means of a clamp 28 here shown as a U-shaped rod with ends on which are threaded nuts 29. lf desired, the clamp 23 may be spot welded to the tube, as indicated at 30.
1929. Serial No. 369,473.
l claim 1. In a boiler, a row of water tubes having abaie disposed adjacent thereto, a clamp surrounding one of said tubes, a wedge between said clamp and tube, and a bearing member iesting on said wedge and adapted to support said battle thereon.
2. In a boiler, a row of water tubes having a baffle disposed adjacent thereto, a clamp surrounding one of said tubes, a wedge between said clamp and tube, a bearing member resting on said wedge and adapted to support said battle thereon, and meansto hold said bearing member against said tube.
3. ln a boiler, a row of water tubes having a baiile disposed adjacent thereto, a U-shaped strap engaging one of said tubes, a bolt eX- tending through the ends of lsaid strap and adapted to tighten the strap on the tube, and a wedge disposed between the bolt and tube and adapted to support said baille, with the wedge face extending parallel to the length of the tubes.
1. In a. boiler, a row of water tubes having a baille disposed adjacent thereto, a U- shaped strap engaging one of said tubes, a bolt extending through the ends of said strap and adapted to tighten the strap on the tube, a wedge disposed between the bolt and tube and adapted to suport said baffle, and a bearing member disposed between said baille and wedge.
5. In a boiler, a row of water tubes having a baiiie disposed adjacent thereto, a U-shaped strap engaging one of said tubes, a bolt eX- teiiding through the ends of said strap and adapted to tighten the strap on the tube, a wedge disposed between the bolt and tube and adapted to support said baliie, a bearing meniber disposed between said battle and wedge, and means to clamp said bearing member against said tube.
