Description

COMBINATION TOOL Filed Jan. 26, 1951 INVENTOR.
BY fzef F/lan ATTORNEY.
Patented Jan. 10, 1933 NETED TATES ELEF FILAN, OF HAY, WASHINGTON COMBINATION TOOL Application flied January 26, 1931.
My invention relates to combination tools and the objects of the invention are to provide a tool that is very useful about the farm by pivotally connecting two handle portions, having on one of their ends a tack puller and screw driver respectively and on their other ends a claw and hammer head portion respectively, and to cooperatively form 2L W1I6 cutter, a hoot trimmer, nippers, a wire tightener, pliers, and wrenches in the scissor like combination.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, adaptation, combination and ar rangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawing; wherein Figure 1 is a general perspective view of the tool;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in side elevation of the head end of the tool with parts broken away along the line 2, 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view partly in plan and partly broken away along the line 3, 3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a view in transverse section taken substantially on a broken line 4, 4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing throughout which like reference numerals indicate like parts, the numeral 5 designates one handle portion of the tool which has a claw tack puller 6 formed on one of its ends and a claw nail puller 7 integrally formed on its other end. Said nail puller is particularly adapted for pulling horse shoe nails although same may be used for pulling ordinary nails, staples and the like. The numeral 8 designates the other handle portion which has a screw driver blade 9 and a spacer member 10 formed on one of its ends and a hammer head 11 integrally formed on its other end.
The two aforesaid integral portions are flattened and pivotally connected at 12 by a rivet 13 disposed transversely of said fiattened portions to provide a scissor like connection and with the inner portions of the claw portion 7 and the hammer head 11 disposed in pivotal abutment. A sharp jaw let is formed on the portion 5 adjacent said piv- Serial No. 511,264.
otal connection and a corresponding jaw 15 is formed on the portion 6 to cooperate with the jaw 14: in forming wire cutters as will be understood. Said jaws overlap slightly in the closed position, as shown in 3, and when they are opened, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, a wire or the like may be placed there between and cut by again closing the two handle portions.
On one side of the hammer head 11 a jaw 16 extends outwardly and upwardly to form a sharpened blade and on the corresponding side of the claw portion 7 a jaw 17 extends outwardly and downwardly to overlap and impinge the jaw 16 in the closed position to form a hoot trimmer that is particularly adapted for trimming the hoots of horses and other animals. On the other side of said hammer head a jaw 18 extends outwardly and upwardly to engage, in the closed position, a corresponding jaw 19 extending outwardly and downwardly from the said claw portion thus providing a pair of nippers or pinchers.
The edges of the nipper jaws are slightly out 7 away to form a hole in the closed position, as at 20 in Fig. 1, which is used as a wire tightener or stretcher. The jaws 18 and 19 are of heavier construction than the aws 16 and 17. However the two last named jaws extend further out from the center of the hammer head and thus counterbalance the weight of the last named two jaws.
The fiat abutting inner ends 21 and 22 respectively of the claw portion 7 and the hammer head 11 together form a pair of pliers whose gripping jaws are used for bending and manipulating wire and other small objects as will be understood. Wrench sockets 23 and 24:, of difierent sizes, are respectively provided on the undersides of the two claws Having thus described my invention, it being understood that minor changes in its construction and arrangement may be resorted to without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 2- In a combination tool having two pivotally connected parts adapted to cooperatively form a hammer head, the combination of a jaw extended outwardly and dowmvardly from one of the parts, a jaw extended outwardly and upwardly from the other part disposed in cooperative relation with the first named aw, another a-w on the opposite side of the first named part, a corresponding jaw on the opposite side of the second named part, the last two named jaws being of heavier construction than the first named awe, and the first named jaws extending further from the center of the hammer head to counterbalance the weight of the last named jaws.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
ELEF FILAN.
