Description

'NITED STATES FFIGE.
BERNARD J. CLARKE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,338, dated April 10, 1877; application filed January 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD .J. CLARKE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Crayon for Marking on Porcelain, Glass, 850., of which the following is a specification This invention relates to a compound for crayons for marking on porcelain, glass, or other smooth surface; and it consists in acomposition formed by mixing a pigment with melted bees-wax, suet, and oil of cedar.
To prepare the compound I take six ounces of bleached bees-wax and melt it, and add seven ounces of melted suet, that is clean and free from impurities; to this mixture I add one pound of dry color of any desirable shade, and stir it thoroughly until the wax, suet, and color are intimately and evenly mixed. I now add one-half ounce of oil of cedar, and incorporate it with the mixture, and when the composition thus formed becomes. cooled marked with chalk or ordinary crayons or pcnoils. The marks made by mycrayons may be readily erased by rubbing the surface on which they are made with a cloth.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt A compound, consisting of a pigment, beeswax, suet, and oil of cedar, substantially as herein described.
BERNARD J. CLARKE. Witnesses:
