Description
UNrrEn STATES PATENT OFFICE HERMAN NEUBERT, OF IRONTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COI\ NSHELLERS.l
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,130, dated April 3, 1877; application filed February 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
,Be it known that I, HERMAN NEUBERT, of Ironton, in the county of Lawrence and State Of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (Jorn-Sheller, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a top view Of my improved cornsheller, partly in section, through the line a: m, Fig. 2, to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a front view Of the same.
, Similar' letters ot reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention consists in the novel construction Ot' -the shelling head or devices, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A is a shaft, to the rear end Ofwhich is attached a crank, B. The forward part of the shaft A is divided into four branches, to the outer ends of which is attached a ring-plate, O. Upon the inner edge of the ring-plate C l are formed. or to it are attached,'four projections Or knives, D, the edges of which are inclined, Aand which are bent into such a shape that their said edges may rest upon the ear diagonally.
To the branches of the shaft A, at a little distance from their ends, is attached a ring plate, E, upon the inner edge of which are formed lugs F. The lugs F are bent forward at right angles to extend along the ear longitudinally. The Outer edge ot' the plate E is concaved between thebranches of the shaft A, tO form openings for the escape Ot' the kernels.
To the branches of the shaft A, between the plates C and E, is secured a short tube, G, having the same diameter as the outer edge Ot' the ring-plate C. The tube G is designed to keepthe kernels from scattering as they are removed from the cob by the knivesD and lugs F. rlhe shaft A is designed to revolve in bearings attached to a short board, the ends Of which are designed to be laid upon chairswhen using the machine, and which should have short crossboards attached toits ends to prevent it from turning.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the ring-plate C, provided with the knives D, the ring-plate E,
having lugs F and an outer concaved edge, and the' short tube G, with the revolving shaft A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HERMAN NEUBERT.
