Description
o. .OpKITTLESON. BARBED FENCE-WIRE.
No.189,047. Patented April 3, 1877.
N. PETERS. PNOTO-LITHOGRAFIIER, WASHINGTON. DJC,
OLE O. KITTLESON, OF MILAN TOWNSHIP, DE KALB COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT I'N BARBED FENCE-WIRE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,047, dated April 3, 1877; application filed August 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLE O. KITTLEsoN, of the township of Milan, in the county of De Kalb and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Barbed Fence-Wire, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an improvedmode of attaching wire barbs to a fence-wire, as is fully hereinafter described.
1n the drawing the figure represents an enlarged perspective view of a piece of fence- Wire with my barbs attached.
A is a piece of fence-wire, and B B the barbs attached thereto. In forming these barbs I first cut the barb-wire into pieces of the required lengths, being careful, however, to make the cuts diagonal to the axis of the wire, to get sharp-pointed ends b b. Now, with a pair of pinchers I hold end I), while, by means of another pair of pinchers, I twist the barb-wire once around the Wire A, until the ends b and b cross each other, after which, by twisting the end 1) around the end]; one half of a revolution, and stretching said ends I) and 1) simultaneously in opposite directions, 1 form a bight, and the barb is then secured.
These barbs may also be formed and twisted,
the wire-barb B b 12, attached to the fencewire by forming a bight in said barb 1) around the said fence-wire, and returning the point I) through saidbight on the opposite side of the fence-wire, so that the points b 1) project, as shown and described.
. OLE O. KITTLESON. Witnesses:
THOM EREOKSON, J r., HENRY KITTELSON.
